New thread heading suggestion

contrarianna

I wonder if there is any chance for a new heading under one of the main headings (such as "right brain babble") with a title such as "propaganda and persuasion in theory and practice"?
Headings such as "international news and politics" or 'media" under "current events" are not an ideal fit.
Any thoughts on this?

Can you give any examples of the sort of threads that should be filed under this proposed new heading?

"Customers need a rational excuse to justify their emotional decisions. So always include one."
—David Ogilvy

The topics as suggested by the proposed heading could be wide ranging.

Its not to say many of the topics have never been discussed on Babble before, its just that future threads could be gathered together in a home that would not really be stretching other existing main headings--as well as highlighting the importance of the heading for a site devoted to "information".

A few areas angles of interest:

*Various propaganda and marketing models in theory and in practice (eg. Orwell, Ellul, Chomsky, Lakoff, Rapaille, etc ).

*Differences and similarities between propaganda messaging in totalitarian (eg fascist or soviet) countries and liberal (or managed) democracies.

*The marketing of products, whether soap or politics, through the irrational.
(There are two very good series available the "The Persuaders" (free video on the PBS site) and the Brit (Freudian) "The Century of the Self" available on google video.)

*Rhetorical strategies and rhetorical fallacies

*Changes in persuasion tactics in changing media: print, tv, internet.

I think those suggested topics would be covered fine by the "media" forum.

My point may be moot since there doesn't seem to be much interest in the proposal.

I do disagree that most of the proposed focus on: propaganda models, theorists-(past and contemporary), rhetorical studies etc., can be easily shoehorned into "current events>>media" which appropriately tends to focus on contemporary stories, perceived biases in contemporary stories, and media, as well as developments in media.
