I really enjoyed Friday morning's SLC program, especially the last 1/2 half hour with Greg Lawrence and Tony Silvestro. It was about Lawrence running his own "leadership" campaign to be Prime Minister. It was very funny.
I have no idea why the brain trust at CBC is axing "Sounds like Canada" as hosted by Sylvestro. He really is good and reminds me of Bill Richardson and his "Sad Goat" show, which I miss so much. I guess us old-timers have become irrelevant as far as the CBC is concerned.

And I can't get a feel for the new afternoon show -- The Point -- at all except it doesn't say anything to me. I mostly ignore it even if it's on or else I put one of the digital music channels on.
It always seems to come back to that age-old question: is there any point in trying to attract all these mythical new listeners while alienating long-time listeners like me?

You summed up my feelings pretty well. I work at home and CBC 1 has been a mainstay in the background for many, many years. These days, I turn the radio off more than I turn it on. I don't want to lose hope in the CBC because I do think there is a deliberate goal of trying to turn off hard core supporters who have saved the CBC in the past. It really is quite depressing.
Also, has anyone else noticed the increased frequency of technical glitches. Did they somehow manage to downsize their tech support in the past year?

I guess you listen to CCC with rex mouthy. Yeah I think they have a lot of tech issues not just on radio, but any live programs these days. I think this has to do with the strike a couple years ago and some paring down despite what harpy says. Again the BBC has a budget 5 times that of the CBC and I don't know if that covers it's radio and internet content.
Rex Mouthy was very rude to a guest that thought we shouldn't be in Afhganistan. What a hawkish prick he is. The guy wasn't rude or impolite, just stating that even Karzai thinks we should negotiate. RM runs over him in typical fashion that he always does to the left. "
We should get organized like the right and start writing in everytime the CBC has something like this happen. Krista Erikson is a prime example. She was a good reporter that lost her job because she provided a liberal with questions to ask in comity. I guess the fact the harper government is so secretive and you need a reporter to get an MP to ask question to get any info should be a canary in the coalmine event. Not a reason for being moved to the hinterlands.

I've found some shows are better than others at responding to email. As It Happens has never replied. The Current has been good, and so has The Sunday Edition. Ontario Morning, my region's weekday morning show, not so good.
Nationally, it seems to me the Ceeb needs something like an updated Sad Goat for that afternoon slot. Maybe The Point will fill this gap... Has anyone been listening to it? The only thing I've heard from The Point are promos.

Hey this is a radio nerd thread, not a scottish nerd thread. Save it for Fergus highland festival. Actually had a great time in Goderich for Piping Down The Sun. On fridays during the summer they have a 30-40 strong highland band do pipe music while the sun sets across lake huron, we happen to go on one of the prettiest sunsets I had seen in some time. My cousin thought it was almost spiritual.

CBC radio is still OK the point has been actually good lately. The repeat programming is nice in one way, but you can DL it from the programs websites, even with a dialup, though that my take a bit. I catch politics from broadband only anymore. Mulcair was awesome today. I can see him as the next leader of the NDP. But I still have a hate for Petty, every interview with layton and she screws up her facts and throws out non sequiters, Harper heck even libs, softball..softball...beachball.
But they should bring bback Northern Lights. I can catch up Morley or Bob Mac anytime on theri sights, music is all copyright BS nowdays anyway, because the artists that died 300 years ago would have wanted it that way.

Ad revenue is falling off with the advent of Great Depression II; mismanagement and incompetence are destroying the programming and the ratings, and the Conservative government is determined to starve the corporation to death.
Canada's cash-strapped public broadcaster said on Thursday it would look at reducing some services in its new fiscal year, starting April 1, including "downgrading" or selling some TV or radio services."If we are to maintain our strategic momentum, we must protect, to the extent possible, our key assets -- our people and our programs -- but we too will be looking at reducing our services in the new fiscal year," said Hubert Lacroix, chief executive of the Canadian Broadcasting Corp, in the text of a speech delivered in Toronto.
The CBC says it is facing an advertising revenue shortfall of up to C$65 million ($52 million).
Lacroix said the corporation may look at consolidating some of its local stations and that it may introduce more U.S. TV programming.
He added that the broadcaster had asked the Canadian government for help with "some financial flexibility". But Ottawa said on Wednesday it expects the CBC to clamp down on costs as other broadcasters are being forced to do.

Has anyone been listening to Here and Now lately? I think Robert Fischer (sp err?) and the business reporter are doing a really good job. I've been hearing business news that no one else is running. Including Tony Clement saying "No one is too big to fail anymore", a pretty stunning piece of audio, and which led into McGuinty's announcement that Ontario would not be able to back GM\Chrysler pensions.

I heard it live in the morning. He sounded wasted -- drunk, stoned, then I began to think he just sounded sick, hungover maybe.
But when I watched it, I thought he looked paranoid and fearful -- actually mentally ill.
This morning, for what reason, I don't know
