You will also get to meet your favourite moderators!
Sadly I will be out of town in Thunder Bay and will miss the festivities. Awww.
I'd love to be there (in disguise, mind) and meet some babblers in person, but it's impossible for me to do so.
BCG, really? Aww.
Boom Boom, let's organize a bus from the North Shore to here.
We'll have to organize some sort of "Match the Babbler to their Picture" type game!
Or we'll all wear signs or something.
There should be minor re-launches in the boonies.

I'm all for it - I can get to Natashquan or Sept-Iles under my own steam, and from there the bus can pick up babblers from Sept-iles all the way to T.O.! (would it also return them home....?)
ETA: I may have a problem with this, as I have to be in the hospital at Blanc Sablon Saturday Oct. 18, and won't be back here until Monday 20th, so it would be very tight for me, and then the Doc might want to see me that week anyway.

Hey Catchfire - this means we really DO have to get the relaunch done on time now!

Why would rabble.ca limit the number of $150 tickets? I would think that rabble.ca would want to sell as many as humanly possible.

Because it is being held in a restaurant and the Vancouver fire marshall just might take exception to overcrowding.
Either that or they know that there are a limited number of people who would pony up the big bucks and it is always better to have a full fundraiser than a half empty one. Besides in those kinds of fundraisers the $150 only gets you in the door so they can attempt to talk you into giving more money.
For all babblers who show up, you will get a free "babble" t-shirt, while supplies last.
How big is the "supply"?

Why would the Vancouver fire marshal object to an event in Toronto?

I'm not sure! While they were sitting in boxes in my office, it seemed like thousands of the damn things, but I doubt highly that there are that many in reality. I'll ask Kim and get back to you on that.
Kim says "hundreds" (which might be an exaggeration, but she's not about to go count them), so there should be enough!

The Vancouver fire marchal is a well-known busy-body...

Okay, well then I guess everyone will get to meet their second and third (and so on) favourite moderators!

To meet the moderators in person would be worth at least $175. You guys are leaving money on the table!!

I met Kim at a fundraiser out here. Mind you it was us trying to pick her pockets but then this whole support the causes you belive in is very circular.

Damn it! The moment I've been waiting the better part of a decade for and here I am thousands of miles away like a sucker. Now I'm hoping the relaunch will be delayed yet again for entirely different motives than the usual cynicism and pessimism. Have fun you Torontonian babblers!

Dude, you don't have to pay $175 to meet the moderators - we're gonna be there the whole night, at the $10-25 shindig too!
Come on Sven, you know you wanna drive up for it. (P.S. As a lawyer, though, we will gratefully accept your $175. )

If I was going to be in the province I might have made the trip, but I have to be in Sask for meetings
Is there going to be any Rabble Re-launch party in Vancouver? Or are all the Vancouver based rabble staff attending the Toronto Rabble Re-launch Party?
[ 19 September 2008: Message edited by: Left Turn ]
I'm not sure whether we're doing anything in Vancouver! I do know that we're bringing the Vancouver folks to Ontario for this event, however, and that way we can also have an in-person staff meeting, which we are rarely able to do.

The funny thing is that I would have to drive down to Toronto from Minnesota, as Toronto is actually south of here!!! Too bad the shindig isn't at the end of January, as I may be in Toronto that last weekend to watch you Torontonians' beloved Maple Leafs play... I think there are enough babblers in the Vancouver area to warrant a rabble-re-launch event in Vancouver. Most of us can't make it to Toronto.
I would love to attend a babble event in the lower mainland or Vancouver Island. I'm going to be in the neighborhood soon.
Hi Left Turn and N.Beltov. A relaunch event in Vancouver - and in other cities - is definitely in the works! Stay tuned!
Will we have to re register after the re launch?
Will this relaunch happen after the 23rd?
Ass a recent transplant to the west coast i'd love to attend a babbler event.

AND you get a free beer and get to be seen with me! I mean how cool is that?
Or, if you really want to skip the poster, you can go straight to here...

So does this mean you're coming? Hey, maybe we could have a dunking booth! You'd be a good sport for the cause, wouldn't you?

Well, I’m not that good of a baseball thrower, but I’m good enough of a sport to give it a try!!
Kabump!
Just wanted to say it probably makes sense to order tickets online soon. Bring a friend. For those babblers with more than one friend, bring both of them. Babblers who have no friends can hang out with me.

You could always try the pork chop hung around your neck ploy... then again, given the target audience, a cask of brandy (like a St-Bernard) might work a little better.
When the Relaunch happens will our profiles be saved or will we have to re register with Babble?
They will be saved.
That's assuming all goes as planned. Of course with this sort of thing, it always goes just as planned, so not to worry.
al-Qa'bump
Update: Murray Dobbin will be joining the roundtable discussion - a debrief on the federal election - the roundtable will ponder what the elections mean for progressive movements and how emerging and independent media can play a stronger role in supporting progressive movements.
Also, rabble.ca is one of nearly 20 groups in Toronto organizing a full day of workshops for media democracy day! The day includes lots of skills-building workshops (including: how to podcast, how to do on-line video, investigative journalism tips for citizen journalists, resource-sharing for documentary journalists), and thematic workshops on a broad range of subjects. Details are at
www.missinginthemedia.ca
The day kicks off at the University of Toronto, 33 St. George Street, with a panel on citizen media, and ends with the relaunch at the Steamwhistle Brewery.

Yeah - by the way folks, it would be really fabulous, if you know you're coming, if you could buy your tickets in advance.
You CAN buy them at the door, but it would be great to have as many done in advance as possible so that we can just look at your printout and say, "Come on in!"
For the advance tickets, you can pay any price along the sliding scale.

I wonder if Dobbin will be explaining what a grand success his strategic voting strategy was in this election.
Indeed, it'll be a great chance to ask him.
I hope you'll come, M. Spector - I'd love to meet you! But hey, you don't have to introduce yourself. All babble anonymity honoured.
I'll be there!
