Toronto Babblers Get-Together!

So, Michelle, oldgoat and I were talking and we thought that we should have a Toronto babblers get-together, so here's the details!

Monday December 29 anytime after 7pm.

The Old Nick, 123 Danforth Ave, right at Broadview subway.

It's gonna be lots of fun! 13 beers on tap, people!

Who's in?

Stargazer

Count me in!!

Papal Bull

Bah, I have to work that night :(

Sineed

I may have family stuff to do, but I'm considering it --- how would I know you?

Maybe if Maysie has a tray of her chocolate mice on the table...

Hee hee. I know a bribe suggestion when I see one, Sineed. We could just bring the rabble banner then you'll know who we are.  Tongue out It would be fab to meet you if you're able to come.

And somehow I think the mice will attract babbler poseurs:

"Um, yeah, sure I'm on babble. I'm, uh, Joe123. Can I have a chocolate?"

I think you'll know us. Michelle's pic was up on the old rabble site. OG and I will be with her.

And yay, I'll finally get to meet you, Stargazer!

Aw, too bad PB. But who knows, we may be up until the wee hours.

Papal Bull

Yeah, but I'll have to haul to Toronto from Oshawa at midnight and get back for Christmas Eve family shindiggery.

Next time, perhaps, we will have more forewarning and I will be able to attend.

Sineed

That was pretty obvious, wasn't it?

Between work and school and kids, I just haven't had the frigging time to make those chocolate mice.  (I actually bought the ingredients last year, but family dramas ensued, and then my kids found and ate the Hershey kisses.)

I just got in from spending the evening with a friend.  Aren't there more Toronto people than this??

jrootham

This seems plausible.  I will have to see closer to time (like, am I done enough so I can go now?)

I'd go, but I don't patronize a bar with less than fifteen beers on tap, so, sorry 'Maysie', but you're out of luck.

Oh, and also I live six timezones away.

Michelle

Catchfire, aren't we worth travelling for?  ;)

I'm looking forward to seeing whoever shows up!  I'd love to meet Sineed - I think she's one of the few Toronto babblers I HAVEN'T met yet!

Michelle

Also, we can just tell the servers that we're from rabble and that people might be asking for us when they come in.  So, just ask the server when you come in for the "rabble table". :)

Michelle

Papal Bull, just quit your job, and then you can come!  See?  Easy-peasy!

I don't even drink beer so the joke's on you! Ha! Tongue out

Maybe next time, Catchfire. What's a half-dozen time zones between babble buddies anyways?

If Ryanair flew to Toronto (well, it would probably fly to Brampton if it did) I'd be there in a carbon-credit flash.

Until then, enjoy the luxurious selction as you choose between Molson Canadian, Molson Export, Coors Light, Labatt Blue, Labatt Dry, Molson Ice and Molson Extra Dry. And I suppose the salubrious and perspicacious conversation of centre-of-the-universe babblers.

oldgoat

To make us easier to find, here's a picture of me.

Hmm. I finish work at 4:00PM, get some food, drive an hour and 15 minutes, and get to Toronto by 7:00PM. And your pub is only half a block from the Don Valley on ramp, making it handy for me to drive straight home.

Sober.

After watching all the Toronto babblers chugging back.

I don't think so. But thanks anyway.

Bumping!

Just a reminder: this is happening on Mon Dec 29 at 7pm, that's *next* Monday at 7pm at The Old Nick 123 Danforth (right at Broadview subway).

We'd love to see any and all Toronto (or GTA, or visiting) babblers who can make it!

I can only drink Hoegaarden. The other beer tatstes like moose pee (although I really have no idea what that tastes like).

jrose

I'm going to try my very best! It's not looking too promising right now, but I'm going to try!

Polunatic2

I will be attending and look forward to meeting old and new babblers.

Aww, come on.  oldgoat has to drive back to Oshawa sober too!  So you won't be the only one!

oldgoat

Mrs. oldgoats last words as I left the house today were just that.  Something about driving back sober.

Sineed

I'm afraid I couldn't make it; one of my daughters had a sleepover, and I thought I really shouldn't just take off.

So...my house is full of giggly little girls.  Is being in a bar with you folks a somewhat equivalent experience??

oldgoat

Yeah, pretty much.  Especially once you get a couple of Singapore Slings into N.R.KISSED.

"twas a fun time, and thanks to Michelle for the fine pub grub.

Wahoo, and a fab time was had by all. It was great to meet babblers I hadn't met, and to watch Michelle flirting with the waiter.

Sorry you couldn't come, Sineed. And after a couple of boilermakers, oldgoat is giggly as all hell, so maybe it was the same as your night of giggly girls.

radiorahim radiorahim's picture

Nice to meet everyone...get a couple of pints of Guiness in me and what do I do?   Write a long "Cuba thread post" when I get home.

Michelle

Hey, the server was flirting with ME!  And radiorahim, too. ;)

That was the first thing radiorahim said when he arrived last night - that he just got back from Cuba and he was going to start a thread on Cuba.  oldgoat and I, who are on vacation, grinned and said, "Go right ahead!"  Sorry, jrose. :)

I'm sorry we didn't get to meet you too, Sineed!

oldgoat, for shame.  Singapore slings?  NRKissed is gonna kick your butt. :D  (Not that there's anything wrong with that...the only thing that stopped me from ordering a girly-drink is that they had cider there.  Always a lifesaver for a gril who doesn't like beer.)  :)

jrose

Sounds like a fun night! Let's get planning the next one so I can make it into the city! :) I was expecting a few drunken babblers to troll the board last night after coming home from the bar, but it seems like you all behaved yourself relatively well!

Wilf Day

Glad you all had fun. As it turned out, I had a giggly five-year-old and a giggly six-year-old here for dinner, so I had a good excuse, and Sineed had company.

N.R.KISSED

It was nice to meet some long time babble pals in person. Unfortunately I wasn't able to stick around long enough to meet Radiorahim.

Thanks to Oldgoat for outing me as a girldrinkdrunk

Michelle

It was great to meet you too!

Tommy_Paine

Crap, I'm jealous.

"I can only drink Hoegaarden. The other beer tatstes like moose pee (although I really have no idea what that tastes like). "

I like nothing better than to have a Hoegaaren as my first beer on a night out.  I could have turned you on to Creemore Spring, Stargazer-- a great beer to have when you can't get Pilsner Urquel.

Sineed

Hoegaarden for me, like the other wheat beers, is a summer beer.  I like stouts in the winter, Murphy's if it's available, but usually it's the ubiquitous Guinness.

If Toronto babblers get together again, I suggest west of Yonge this time.  How about the Victory Cafe, in Mirvish Village?  It's close to the subway, it's big, and has tons of micro beers on tap.

oldgoat

Actually Sineed, we were sitting in the Victory Cafe when we planned this event.  I requested an East of Yonge venue for a change as I live in Oshawa, and all rabble events seem to be in the Kensington area, or sometimes at the Victory.  I'm happy with that though, the Victory's a great place.
