Porn Moguls Ask For Bailout

excerpt:

"...everyone and their mother want to be bailed out from the banks to the big three,” he said. “The porn industry has been hurt by the downturn like everyone else and they are going to ask for the $5 billion. Is it the most serious thing in the world? Is it going to make the lives of Americans better if it happens? It is not for them to determine.”

Francis, meanwhile, released a statement in which he said that “the US government should actively support the adult industry's survival and growth, just as it feels the need to support any other industry cherished by the American people." Surprised

Although I'm sure it's usually anyone's guess as to where Flint and Francis's tongues might be at any given moment, it's a safe bet they were well in cheek here.

This brings new meaning to the term "stimulus package".

On a serious note, I agree that this is tongue in cheek - demonstrates that if the government is going to bail out parts of the economy, how do they decide what's "worthy" and what isn't?

I think the only interesting thing about this came from another news report I heard.  Add revenue on internet porn sites is significantly down, according to the source I heard.   It seems all that work place porn viewing has been reduced by the layoffs, closures and cutbacks.

Bail outs are pretty easy to prioritize.  If the sector in need has people in it that dress, sound and look like you, then of course they need a bail out, no questions asked.

Others can go fuck themselves-- or not,  if Flynt is to be believed.

That sounds weird. If anything, I'd have expected an increase, since I'd assume that most people would know that looking at porn at work is really stupid. On the other hand, I could see the ad revenue being down simply because if you're a company with a serious short term cash flow problem, and you need to cut your spending, advertising would seem like an attractive place to start, because it can be reinstated quickly when your situation improves, whereas if you lay off workers, it's not as simple to just hire new ones, because you have to train them all over again.

Do you have a link for this?

I want to quibble with your premises. I think the decline preceded layoffs closures and cutbacks and is attributable to managerial decisions to use blocking software. Quibbling is so much fun.

And what about porn consumers? It's not like tissue paper is getting any cheaper.

"Do you have a link for this?"

Sadly, no.  I heard it on CBC radio, on my early morning drive to work.  I've tried to find these kinds of CBC radio reports on line before, and if they are available, I've never been able to find them.

I usually charge five pounds for a quibble.  Ten for a full blown arguement.   I would assume most places would be like my employer, which employed such software as soon as it came on the market.  However, not every employer is so minded, even today.

I tend to think Agent 204's observation has some truthyness to it, as add revenue is down in newspapers and T.V., also.

I would just like to observe that when old T-shirts are reduced to rags, they are still usually 100% cotton, and this means they are absorbent. Do I have to spell it out, they can be washed and resused... unlike tissue paper.

Tommy_Paine

And the t-shirts, unlike tissues, can be tied to the end of a broom stick, so you can clean the ceiling.

I listened to Larry Flynt on the Alan Colmes radio show last week. He has a wry sense of humour and a great nose for free publicity. I'm planning to change my name to Wall(ace) Street and then go to Washington with my hand out. So what if I am Canadian? The Bush admin istration has been quite indiscriminate about to whom it gives unsupervised money.
