Just reading this now. Thanks for the persuasive invite :)

I'll try to drop by on my way to the (free) Beaches Jazz Festival. Planning to catch Blackburn and God Made me Funky at Woodbine Park after 8:00.

Papal Bull

I have to pull out of this. I hope you all have fun and hope to encounter you guys again before too many moons wax and wane.

marzo

I have not posted much on babble for a long time but I will drop in to Old Nick's to listen to the clever conversation. I won't get lost, I know exactly where it is.  It's easy to find.

I have noticed that a lot of people can't or won't read maps. When I was a kid we learned map-reading in school and as a young adult I would always get a local map when visiting a city I didn't know. I think that in a large city such as Toronto a map is a necessity if you want to travel around town outside your neighbourhood.

Michelle

Yay Marzo!  Looking forward to meeting you!  :)  (Have we met before?)

It'll be nice to see you again, Gary, it's been a while.  Maybe even since the last get-together?

Caissa

I hope you all have a blast this evening.

Abdool

I hope someone puts prescription strength laxatives in all your drinks.  Cheers, assholes.

Refuge Refuge's picture

I'll be there, but without the laxatives Wink.

Caissa

Someone is even giving you a troll to play with tonight. How considerate.

Maysie Maysie's picture

Abdool is banned. How I wish for such powers IRL.

See folks tonight, and sorry for those who can't make it. Maybe next time.

I will pass on the laxatives, too.  What's bothering this guy?

Caissa

What's wrong with this guy, Marzo.

Why, he's obviously full of it. Wink

jrose

I'm still hoping to make it tonight! It's looking pretty grey out Oakville's way, so I'll have to wait to see if the thunderstorms hold out.

No, it's not that I melt in the rain, rather I have to bring some work-related spreads home for the weekend, and can't risk getting them wet during the commute into the city.

Jullrah

All the relatives have left, my services as a taxi driver is no longer required, the Columbines have been transplanted, most of my garden projects have been completed so I may just put in a surprise appearance.......To meet all you fine folk!! If I don't make it..please, please have a great time!!

These 'assholes' are some of the finest people I've encountered, in person or online, which in retrospect says a lot about my usual circles.

jrose

I'm afraid this ominous weather is going to keep me out of the city tonight! This is one of those days I wish I lived right in Toronto.

Lard Tunderin Jeezus Lard Tunderin Jeezus's picture

Oh, c'mon. It's just a few showers.

jrose

Like I said, the rain doesn't bother me! I just have some files to bring home that I can't risk getting wet. (I know, nerdiest excuse ever!) I'm going to try my best, I promise.

I guess bodily functions can find their way onto any thread :) This is the second I've posted on today. Or maybe it's me?

Refuge Refuge's picture

Just got off the subway, fire trucks and police cars everywhere! What did those babblers do?

Catchfire Catchfire's picture

Sorry I can't make it to meet y'all. I have some important files I can't get wet. And I live 4000 km away (although, fyi, they are now on the other side of Toronto).

Instead, I'm going to the Vancouver folk festival where my sister, who's playing tomorrow, scored me some free passes. W00t! Somebody have a Creemore for me, please.

Have fun!

Yeah, thats what I thought when I drove up a bit ahead of you.

Anyway, it was absolutely splendid.  I'm glad I went the extra few bucks and rented the full white tie and tails.  Refuge was magnificent in her evening gown, and my how those diamonds sparkled in her tiara!  Thanks to rabble management for the cases of Dom Perignon, and hiring the orchestra.  Wonderful to see you all, and my condolences to those who couldn't make it.

Cueball Cueball's picture

We'll miss it I am afraid. We are in Vancouver. Cheers all.

Refuge Refuge's picture

Well, thankyou, oldgoat.  The extra few bucks for the full white tie and tails was worth it, you looked magnificent.  Unfortunately I fear I had to much ice tea and now the caffine is keeping me sleepless in Toronto.Frown.  But it was all worth it, I had fun.

Michelle

At first I was thinking, gee, not a lot of people said they were going to show up here in this thread, so I figured it would be a small crowd.  And then, as it turned out, there were, like, a million babblers there!  Well, okay, around 15 or so. :)

Nice to see everyone!  Radiorahim sure can pack away those cosmopolitans!  (I think he particularly liked the little umbrellas.)  And nice to meet you, Refuge, Marzo, and Joey Ramone!

Maysie Maysie's picture

And a good time was had by all!

I finally met LTJ, which was so way cool. And jrootham, Joey Ramone (and family), and Refuge and Marzo.

And of course, classic babble was there: Kim and Corvin. spatrioter made an appearance too. And Gary Shaul.

And, whew, the waiter who flirted with Michelle last time was still there, in fine form. I love that bar!

All that 'Strongbow' soda-pop went straight to my head and I completely lost my mind.

Fortunately, nobody noticed with all the cops and firefighters around.

For the sake of us curious onlookers, will someone answer this question?

Refuge Refuge's picture

I dunno really.  When I was walking to the restaurant they were going in and out of a building about two or three doors down from the restaurant.  Didn't seem too urgent, two fire fighters were shooting the shit leaning against a fire services van and there were firemen walking casually in and out of the building.  The cops were all standing around chatting outside of their vehicles.

Fun meeting you refuge, jrootham, joey ramone (+ family!), marzo. Never realized how good LTJ sounds out loud until oldgoat welcomed him into the room! Thanks again for the shekels radiorahim!

Lard Tunderin Jeezus Lard Tunderin Jeezus's picture

It was great to see everyone I knew, and meet face to face with some previously unencountered babblers.

Sorry I slipped away early, but it was great to catch God Made Me Funky at the Beaches Jazz Festival, too.

Some babblers might want to believe that the cops and firefighters were there because of babble's earth-shaking presence but the truth is that their presence had nothing to do with us.  I saw some smoke rising from the rooftop but it was probably no big deal.

And there I was thinking I was drinking Tankhouse Ale.  It must have been those Goddess-like magical powers of moderation at work blinding me as to what I was really drinking.

Great to meet you Marzo, Refuge, Joey Ramone, Corvin and nice to see the regular folks again.

Gary Shaul Gary Shaul's picture

Glad I could make it to say "hi" and meet some babblers I hadn't met before and see "old" friends. I couldn't stay too long. Were you there 'til closing?

Papal Bull

Drats, I'm really disappointed in missing you craaaaaaaaaaazy kids..I say that term knowing full well that I'd have probably been the youngest there :P

I'm pretty sure that meeting me (PB) is an awesome experience and you should all try to hold one of these again soon! Perhaps a pre-autumn get together?

Lard Tunderin Jeezus Lard Tunderin Jeezus's picture

Having met PB, I must concur with his self-assessment. I'm in for mid-September if others are interested.

Gary Shaul Gary Shaul's picture

I can probably offer up my backyard (or living room in case of rain) for an autumn get-together if people are interested in a change of format. I'm in the St. Clair & Bathurst area.  Could be a BYOB potluck or some such creation. I'll leave that thought with our social co-ordators-in-chief.

marzo

That's very generous of you, Gary. Whether or not it takes place at a private home, at a restaurant, or elsewhere I agree that social events are a good idea.

What about Nuit Blanche in September? For those who don't know what it is, it is an art festival that starts at 7pm and goes on all night until dawn. The name comes from a similar festival in Paris where it is common to refer to a sleepless night as a 'white night'.

Rexdale_Punjabi Rexdale_Punjabi's picture

do it I missed this thing cuz of shit u know so Ill try and get to the next one just cuz I gotta do that shit once lol

Maysie Maysie's picture

Gary that's very cool of you to offer your place. Thanks.

I'm guessing that I might be one of the coordinators of Toronto babblers' social things? Laughing

I like not going to a restaurant, and something potluck-y.

Let's keep this in mind for something in the fall. Fab idea.
