Iraq: A Massacred Generation - by Layla Anwar

"...in prisons, aged between 10 and 17. Some were showing the signs of torture on their ever so frail bodies, confirming what I have been saying all along, they were not only tortured but also regularly raped as well, in these prisons.."

'Another more recent myth about Canadian Foreign policy in the Middle East is that this country did not participate in the 2002 invasion of Iraq, which most neutral observers say was a war crime under international law...Despite the Canadian and media spin, it is clear that Canada was a close and willing ally in the invasion and occupation of Iraq. "What the Canadian government has done with regard to Iraq is to involve itself militarily, in largely covert fashion, but to publicly try to take the moral high ground in opposition to the war." Former US ambassador to Ottawa Paul Cellucci provided a good summary of Canada's role in Iraq. "Ironically, the Canadians indirectly provide more support for us in Iraq than most of those 46 countries that are fully supporting us.."

"Washington is angry at Baghdad because Iraqi troops recently stormed a camp north of Baghdad belonging to the Mujahideen-e-Khalq"

Very interesting and humorous at the same time. Investigative news journalist Seymour Hersh reported in an [url=http://www.npr.org/templates/player/mediaPlayer.html?action=1&t=1&islist... with NPR[/url] one year ago that the Bush war criminals budgeted $400 million dollars for covert operations inside Iran. And that they were training anti-Iran terrorist organizations Jondollah and Mujahid-e-Khalq, both of which have clear track records as terrorists, and even against the US.

This is in addition to Hersh's previous reports that "al-Qa'eda", that CIA database of expendible jehadi assets, have been marauding throughout Iraq and attacking the enemies of their friends in the CIA and US military. ie. theyve launched attacks against the true anti-American insurgents in Iraq. Theyve been waging phony war there, too.

The racist sunni arabs always attack the Shiites of Iraq as "Iranians" and "Persian Zoaoroastrians"! Saddam and his predecessors expelled millions from Iraq under that pretence; people who had lived in Iraq longer than any Sunnis. Not to take into account that Iraq has traditionally been the birth place of Shiism and the most important Shia centre in the world prior to the rise of Safavid in Iran.

To these racists, if the 65% Shia Arab people of Iraq demand their rightful share of country's government, that is "iranian colonization".

It should be, but they make it a race issue, by labeling the shia Arabs "Iranians" or "Persians" as a deragotary term.

Not necessarily. Back then Nazi sympathizers also thought they would some day take revenge on Nuremberg trial judges and prosecutors.  Talk is cheap. Considering that Saddam supporters believe it was Iranians or their agents who executed him, I am quite surprised that you are implicitly condemning my nation to hanging for the execution of one mass murderer. This is quite uncharacteristic. If the Israelis had the right to punish Eichmann, So did we. Although personally I preferred to see Saddam handed over to Iran than executed in Baghdad.

What a bizarre connection. I of course was talking about the murderers of Saddam and their friends - the U.S. and its puppets everywhere - surely you don't think they will escape justice in Kabul and Baghdad one day? Did you read Kabul or Baghdad as being in Iran? Shall I email you a map of the region?

I note a difference here between invaders (the US and coalition army) and a government in Baghdad that, in delievring justice to Saddam, carried out the wishes of a large majority of its people. I also don't agree that the current Iraqi government is a "US puppet". It is beseiged by the presence of the US army, but its foreign and domestic policies are not fully aligned with the wishes of the US government. I used to consider Maleki as an Iranian puppet, but he has also shown signs of independence from Iranian influence. The neocon men in Baghdad - like Ayad Alavi and Chelebi - were forced out of the positions of power after a short while after invasion. The US might have won the invasion, but certainly was not able to establish the kind of government neocons wanted.

Unionist

Glad you approve of the regime in Baghdad and their taste for "justice". Tell me, was the Shah "fully aligned with the wishes of the US government"?

Shah was. Was there any occasion when he did something against their wishes?

I did not say I approve the regime in Baghdad. Just that they are far less of a US puppet than most "independent" Arab regimes of the region, from Saudi to Egypt to Pakistan to Jordan, are. and that's in presence of a large US army in their land. Once that army is gone, I don't see them end up as US allies. Also in my view, they do represent a sizable section of Iraq's population.

Unionist

I see. So the U.S. invaded Iraq... why? Weapons of mass destruction? Revenge for the humiliation of G. Bush Sr? To bring freedom and democracy to the Iraqi people? They mixed up Osama with Saddam (those durned furrin soundin names)? For the heck of it? And they're going to leave now ("once that army is gone") and wish the Iraqi people good luck with their oil and strategic location?

of course not; but nations with long histories know that invading empires come and go. The US will not be able to stay there forever.
