Michelle, while I am all in favour of friction burn (as opposed to blood) sports, I tend to prefer to be a spectator (read instigator) rather than a participant. Also there is the question of whether or not I have the appropriate travel documents to be admitted into the sanctum of the Central Canadian Overlords. But like a loyal little subject of the empire I turn up from time to time to my little bit to "bump" up the agenda of the overlords. Does this make me a lackey?

Well, if you bring the bats, that makes you the instigator, especially if you just dump them on the table and watch everyone ELSE bat each other with them.

Weltschmerz, depends on the person, really. If the person's name on babble sounds like a real first name, I find it difficult to stop calling them by their babble name. For instance, I still occasionally catch myself starting to say "Tommy" to Tommy_Paine. And I occasionally address e-mails to "Maysie" and, previously, "bigcitygal".

Polunatic, never, because I know him better in his real life form than his babbler form. jrootham, no, because "jrootham" doesn't sound like a first name. Although sometimes it takes me a moment to remember what the "j" stands for! (I mean, I KNOW what it stands for, but sometimes it doesn't click in immediately.)

People always seem to call me by my babble handle, though. I don't understand it.

Michelle, thanks for arranging this.

I have a commitment on Saturday at 5pm for a few hours but I will be there perhaps a bit later than 7. It will be nice to finally meet Tommy and Rebecca and to see jrootham, oldgoat and anyone else who's able to attend.

I'm leaving for Ottawa the next morning to be with my sweetie's parental units, so the timing is perfect. Plus that means I can't get too tipsy!

Pie, I find that the relationship doesn't change so much as that I find it difficult to fight too hard with most of them on babble afterwards, because once you know someone in person, even just meeting them a couple of times, you always have this consciousness of them as a real live person who is nice and fun and just "good people". So you tend not to assume the worst about the stuff they post, etc.

I'd love to see people organize babble get-togethers elsewhere. Maybe we should appoint various regional people the babble social secretaries or something. :D Timebandit can handle Saskatchewan (with back-up from al-Q), N.Beltov can be our Winnipeg correspondent (hey, has anyone seen him around lately?). remind can coordinate BC, and Dana can provide, ahem, refreshments. :D

Seriously, though - I'd love to see stuff organized in other areas of the country. We Torontonians shouldn't have ALL the fun. Wasn't there a Vancouver meet-up a few years ago?

Same ones as in the last thread, R_P since it's the same place. It's at Broadview subway station, so get yourself to a subway station (I assume Kipling or Islington) by whatever bus is easiest for you, then go east to Broadview station.

You can't bring your own alcohol into a pub/restaurant, and I'm not going to encourage you to bring that or "bleezy" (not sure what that is) when you're underage. Nor do I think it's a good idea for you to order alcohol underage and I would definitely encourage you not to do that. And yes, most places do check ID.

If you'd like to come out, you're welcome. Since it's a restaurant, they serve non-alcoholic drinks and food as well. You should definitely clear it with your parents, though, since you are 15 and meeting people from online. They are welcome to come along, too. If you need help with directions or are feeling unsure about the transit routes, your parents may be able to help you. Since this is just an impromptu get-together with a few folks who chat with each other online, we can't be responsible for getting people to and from the event.

Sorry, but you ARE a kid (well, a teenager, anyhow), and you are underage, no matter how old you look. We cannot encourage you to drink or do drugs underage, and I would strongly encourage you to tell your mom before meeting anyone from online, including people you chat with on babble.

You were expressing concern about being able to get to and from the place, so that's why I suggested that you ask your mom for help if you feel unsure about it. You are both welcome to come. But this is just an impromptu get-together of a few folks who chat online, so everyone is responsible for finding their own way to and from the event, and you should be accompanied by an adult if you feel uncomfortable travelling in the city by yourself, or apprehensive about attending a meet-up with people you have never met before from online.

Looks to be the 2nd to the 5th that I'll be in the general vicinity, although the conference I'm attending is about an hour outside Toronto. There were 15 people there! We had a great time. It was nice to see all the people I'd met before, and really nice to meet Sineed, Arctic_Pig, and Rexdale_Punjabi. :) Oh, and it was also great to meet Joey Ramone's two guests as well. :) (We told them they had to start babbling now. We'll see what happens.)
