What are you listening to? (7)

The last thread was getting long, hence this new one. I've been listening to old Arlo Guthrie tapes (as well as a lot of other stuff) when I discover Arlo played last night in Ottawa, and has a concert tonight (22nd) at The Outrement Theatre, Montreal. I'd love to be there but it's impossible for me. I saw Arlo in a PBS special live in concert with Pete Seeger not long ago - that was quite good. Arlo and his entourage were also in Oakville earlier this week.

Ooops!!!! Tonight is the 29th, not the 22nd. My bad. Anyway, the Arlo concert is tonight.

Rare Earth - The Millenium Collection This is a band I saw perform in Ottawa's Civic Centre around 1971 or maybe earlier, can't remember the exact year. Rare Earth was the first white group signed by Motown, were a fantastic boogie band, with some good studio recordings as well. I liked them better than Humble Pie, another boogie band that was awesome. The best album by Rare Earth is "Live In Concert", one of the best pure boogie albums to come out of the 1960s, and unfortunately out of print, with used albums going for as much as $100. This album contains some great Rare Earth signature songs such as "I Just Want to Celebrate" and "Get Ready". When I was a teenager in Ottawa in the 1960s, I saw a lot of really great bands at the Civic Centre, and a lot of folk, blues, and rock performers at the old Le Hibou coffee house. God, I miss the '60s (and the '70s as well).

Is you crazy baby, I gots to grind"

[Hook]

I'm grabbing grain, in the turning lane

And I gotta maintain (cause the law behind me)

I've tried to leave the game, I know I need to change

(I need to resco' again) meet me on Fondren & Main

[Z-Ro]

I was a superstar at seventeen

Famous in the ghetto, for working a triple beam

Somebody told me it was destiny, for me to suffer

Cause when the going gets rough, it only gets rougher

I had to make a quick change from Lunchables, and a spot on the bus

To eating at Papa Deauxx everyday, and a Suburban with bump

I got the game from my partna, but all he told me was Ro

Before you get your feet wet partna, you better be sho

If you get caught it's Penitentiary time, understand

Fronted me nine, and now we got the hottest on the van

My grandmother knew what it was doing, because my pockets stuck out

And plus she told me I love you, but get your shit out my house

All I ever wanted to do, was just shine a little

Bump and grind a little, and then recline a little

Trying to protain, lavish have it like the H.A.W.K

You need another zone then I'm on my way, because I'm trapped in the game

[Hook]

[Dougie D]

Well I done came from crumbs to bricks

While I'm hustling up in the city streets

On the block of Fondren and Main, coppers know where the killas be

When I get out I'm gonna make me a change

The whole situation, seemed a bit strange

Everybody wanna die, somebody brain

Dougie D, trying to collect a little change

And grip the grain, swang turning lanes

With a whole bunch of hoes, yelling out my name

Pop trunk open wide, up in down South mayn

And when I work the wood, I lean on maintain

Or put it on your brain, ain't worried bout a damn thang

Without leaving this shit, and everybody need to change

But plus again, ain't worried bout a damn thang

Set up shop, up on Fondren and Main

[Taz]

I wish I was the one with the top down

In a chromed out Benz, with all my friends

Bank account, with unlimited ends

Gripping, I ain't sweating the rent

The only problem is, I'm a FED fella

With no intentions on, taking a loss

And everytime I see the law, my heart pauses

Riding dirty, everytime I'm flossing

I got tossed in the game, at a early age

Trying to push pounds and tons

Looking for fortune and fame

Through the smoke of my Mary Jane

Trying to control the game

Instead of trying to find another way to stay paid

I was stuck at a materialistic stage

Now I have a piece and chain, with expensive shades

Trying to resco' again, now I got two chances

I could pay the cost, and everyone they take a loss

So when the laws come, shake em off

Headed for the border man, I'm making it cross

Or I could break off a tight job, and do it right this time

Is you crazy baby, I gots to grind

Wu Tang - C.R.E.A.M.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjZRAvsZf1g

(Cash Rules Everything Around Me
C.R.E.A.M. get...)

Yeah, check this ol fly shit out
Word up
(Cash Rules Everything Around Me) Take you on a natural joint
(C.R.E.A.M. get the money) Here we here we go
(dolla dolla bill y'all) Check this shit, yo!

Verse One: Raekwon the Chef

I grew up on the crime side, the New York Times side
Staying alive was no jive
Had second hands, moms bounced on old man
So then we moved to Shaolin land
A young youth, yo rockin the gold tooth, 'Lo goose
Only way, I begin to G' off was drug loot
And let's start it like this son, rollin with this one
And that one, pullin out gats for fun
But it was just a dream for the teen, who was a fiend
Started smokin woolies at sixteen
And running up in gates, and doing hits for high stakes
Making my way on fire escapes
No question I would speed, for cracks and weed
The combination made my eyes bleed
No question I would flow off, and try to get the dough off
Sticking up white boys in ball courts
My life got no better, same damn 'Lo sweater
Times is rough and tough like leather
Figured out I went the wrong route
So I got with a sick tight clique and went all out
Catchin keys from across seas
Rollin in MPV's, every week we made forty G's
Yo brothas respect mine, or anger the tech nine
Ch-POW! Move from the gate now

Chorus (2X): Method Man

Cash Rules Everything Around Me
C.R.E.A.M.
Get the money
Dollar, dollar bill y'all

Verse Two: Inspectah Deck

It's been 22 long hard years and still strugglin
Survival got me buggin, but I'm alive on arrival
I peep at the shape of the streets
And stay awake to the ways of the world cause shit is deep
A man with a dream with plans to make C.R.E.A.M.
Which failed; I went to jail at the age of 15
A young buck sellin drugs and such who never had much
Trying to get a clutch at what I could not touch
The court played me short, now I face incarceration
Pacin', going up state's my destination
Handcuffed in back of a bus, 40 of us
Life as a shorty shouldn't be so rough
But as the world turns I learned life is Hell
Living in the world, no different from a cell
Everyday I escape from Jakes givin chase, sellin base
Smokin bones in the staircase
Though I don't know why I chose to smoke sess
I guess that's the time when I'm not depressed
But I'm still depressed, and I ask what's it worth?
Ready to give up so I seek the Old Earth
Who explained working hard may help you maintain
to learn to overcome the heartaches and pain
We got stickup kids, corrupt cops, and crack rocks
and stray shots, all on the block that stays hot
Leave it up to me while I be living proof
To kick the truth to the young black youth
But shorty's running wild, smokin sess, drinkin beer
And ain't trying to hear what I'm kickin in his ear
Neglected for now, but yo, it gots to be accepted
That what? That life is hected

Chorus -- 3X

Cash Rules Everything Around Me
C.R.E.A.M.
get the money
Dolla dolla bill y'aauhhhaaaauhhhhahhhauhhhhll, YEAH

That's interesting about the reverse thing Rexdale_Punjabi.  Decc definitely hit it at the end but I'll think about that with Raeqwon second.

Z-Ro - Let The Truth Be Told

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tDMxT3s6BM

2nd verse dont deserve to be on the tracc Hook]

Time to let the truth be told, it ain't no brighter days
Cause when it all unfolds, a nigga gon just pass away

These haters, trying to stop my grind
But I bet them hoes, can't block my shine
So tired of taking losses, not this time
I can't save the whole world, I'm just trying to look out for mine

[Z-Ro]
I been getting a lot of exposure lately, on niggaz songs and in they videos
Cause they know I'm a O.G., not an original gangsta but an organized general
They see me pulling up in my 300 banging, gators on my feet and jewelry dangling
Everybody love the way I look on the outside, but inside I be paining
Is it ever gonna stop raining, nothing but thunderstorm clouds hover above me
Shit I use to break my back to make sure my niggaz was straight, but they still don't love me

That's why it's no more pain on my lower arm, and one deep tatted on my other arm
If you see me looking in y'all direction, I'm not about to speak fin to do you motherfuckers harm
Got seventeen albums and they all selling, so tell me why the fuck my pockets ain't swelling
Ain't never did nothing to nobody, that didn't have it coming to 'em bitch I'm a felon
Feel like I was failing God tell me when I'm gon win, you know when I'm blessed you know when I'm gon sin
You were there at the beginning of my days, I'm just hoping I see you after all my days end
And I don't give a damn what these people say, half the people in the church got evil ways
I was just looking to make a lil' scrilla, but it turned a lil' Christian into a lil' killer
From label to label and gun to rifle, it's a forward march ain't no time to retreat
If you able to save a nation go 'head, but I'm struggling to get myself some'ing to eat

fucc I was thinkin of bolding the reales lines but might as bold everything lol

Never heard of that group.  Whatever happened to nice names, like 'The Cowsills', and 'The Bay City Rollers'.

Caissa

A recent Channel 4 documentary, Who Got The Rollers' Millions?, explored the speculation about what happened to the supposed financial fortune the group generated in their career, with accusations that it was defrauded from the group by their management and record company. There are claims that the group sold 100-300 million records and generated the equivalent of five billion pounds in revenue, with the band members themselves earning very little.[1] [2] [3]. According to BBC they sold 70 million records. However, even this figure has been disputed by several sources, not least their former record company.[1].

In March 2007, six former members of the group (Faure plus the "classic line-up") announced a lawsuit against Arista Records in hopes of claiming what they describe as "tens of millions of dollars" of unpaid royalties. Nobby Clark has threatened to sue the other band members if their lawsuit is successful, stating that he was the creative force behind the band's success, despite the fact that he left the group in 1973 before the bulk of their fame and fortune began.[2] [3]

Just finished watching and listening to all four hours of "The 25th Anniversary Concert for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" at MSG, NY. I've been to the Hall of Fame in Cleveland (2002). Concert highlights for me included performances by BB King, Stevie Wonder, Simon and Garfunkle, Dion, Sam Moore, Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Riatt, Jeff Beck, John Fogerty, Mick Jagger, Crosby Stills & Nash. There were a lot of performers I never ever got into such as Bruce Springsteen (although his band was awesome tonight), Metallica, Ozzy Osborne, U2, Sting, and a bunch of other performers whose names escape me. Lou Reed performed with Metallica of all things - he was better with the Velvet Underground.
