Who Cares About Gaza?

http://www.counterpunch.com/cloughley12112009.html

"Gaza? What's that? Have you heard about it recently? It doesn't figure on the list of important matters for consideration by the world's presidents and prime ministers. It has vanished from the media. Most people couldn't care less about a generation of Palestinians who are subjected to viciously inflicted privation by an imperialist nation that has lost touch with humanity..."

which would include Canada

The whole world pretended to know nothing about the Warsaw Ghetto too. History repeats.

here's a website of jewish americans dedicated to raising an awareness of the suffering in palestine and gaza through raising an awareness of the injustices and imbalances around the i/p issue... they obviously care, as do many others, in spite of the posturing of many canadian and american politicians...

The Irish care about Gaza and I WILL be celebrating St. Pat's day next year.

Quote:

Deputy Ó Snodaigh said:
“It was with regret but little surprise when I heard Mícheál Martin say that he was refused permission by Israel to visit Gaza. It was yet another slap in the face for the Irish Government from Israel that must not be allowed to go unchallenged. The minister should consider suspending diplomatic relations with Israel.
“Israel – a rogue, racist and belligerent state – has no right whatsoever to deny any Irish minister a visit to Palestine to see first-hand the humanitarian crisis that has been created by their criminal war actions.”

Here we go again, looking for ways to compare Israel with Nazis

I'm comparing the Gaza Ghetto with the Warsaw Ghetto--a forsaken people sealed, brutalized, and starved. I am thinking of the people within those cities not the oppressors without. If you see a comparison between Zionism and Nazism, that is your perception. Please don't ascribe it to me.

Yet, on one of the great issues of our time, the Israel-Palestine conflict, Mr. Wiesel has not abided by the moral maxims he championed in the above address. For example, in the second volume of his memoirs, he admitted, “Indeed, I can say in good faith that I have not remained indifferent to any cause involving the defense of human rights. But, you may ask, what have I done to alleviate the plight of the Palestinians? And here I must confess:  I have not done enough….In spite of considerable pressure, I have refused to take a public stand in the Israeli-Arab conflict. I have said it before:  since I do not live in Israel, it would be irresponsible for me to do so.”

Israel's Leaders on the Run

"British sources report that though a British court had issued an arrest warrant for Livni over war crimes committed in Gaza, it annulled it upon discovering she was not in the UK.."

True Lies

"...what's surprising is that instead of standing up and defending its own legal system the British government is distancing itself from the issue and allowing Israel to clearly interfere in influencing its domestic affairs and governing system.."

i think it has to do with the fact their are war criminals in britian as well - blair for one - and if they were to actually pursue this, they would have to go after him and some other political leaders that would make things tricky for britian diplomatically... of course diplomacy is only useful up to a point, especially when your country is involved in illegal wars around the globe...

It's strange to see President Obama accepting a Peace Prize as he escalates a war. As a Holocaust survivor whose parents perished at Auschwitz in 1942, I know all too well what war looks like. I also know what peace looks like and I can tell you this: Sending 30,000 more U.S. troops to fight in one of the poorest countries in the world, Afghanistan, is not making peace.

As President Obama accepts a Peace Prize he does not deserve, it's a good time to model what real peacemaking looks like. That's why-at the ripe age of 85-I'll be joining the Gaza Freedom March on December 31. Over 1,000 peacemakers from around the world will join hands with 50,000 Palestinians in Gaza as we walk together to the Israeli border. As Jews, Christians, Muslims, atheists, and members of many faiths we will come together as one humanity to condemn the brutal invasion of Gaza one year ago and demand that Israel lift the siege that has brought 1.5 million people to the brink of disaster.
