Microsoft Silverlight

Does anyone know what MS Silverlight is, please?  I'm trying to get an Olympic schedule off the CTV site, but it won't give me one without installing this programYell

I dunno, but apparently it supports the playback of H.264 video, which must surely be a dream come true for fans of H.264 video protocol. They also say Silverlight supports WMV, WMA and MP3 media content across all supported browsers without requiring Windows Media Player, the Windows Media Player ActiveX control or Windows Media browser plugins, which I can only assume is a good thing.

What you're being asked to install is probably a browser plugin for playing Silverlight content in the same way that you (probably) have a Flash plugin installed to play Flash content (such as YouTube clips). Wikipedia on Silverlight:

Quote:
Microsoft Silverlight is a web application framework that provides functionalities similar to those in Adobe Flash, integrating multimedia, graphics, animations and interactivity into a single runtime environment. Initially released as a video streaming plugin, later versions brought additional interactivity features and support for .NET languages and development tools.

CTV uses Microsoft technology -- Active Server Pages -- for its website so it doesn't surprise me that they're using Silverlight as well.
