Do Over Day.

Has anyone heard of the new Canadian holiday 'Do Over Day'?

It's on Feb. 26, it allows you to salvage past mistakes or help prevent a friend from making the same error. I think that forgiveness is a beautiful thing. I'm hoping that Do Over Day will help me make up with my best friend... we just got in a big fight a couple weeks ago and I'm looking for ways to 'Do it Over' on this special holiday. Any suggestions? Dinner out? A nice card? Gift certificate to the spa?

Hey, at least I wasn't as bad as Tiger. I wonder what he would have to do on Do Over Day.......

an apology?

Not to be confused with "Doover Day", a little-known Welsh celebration, increasing in popularity, that occurs on the last Friday of February where you bring beer to work and spray your boss with silly string. (It helps if your boss knows it's Doover Day.)

Doover Day? haha that's hilarious. I bet after spraying beer in your boss' face you would want to do that over too.

My list grows longer and longer every day. Look at this e-card I found on the website hahaha

One nice thing about Valentines day was that I could get all the way 'til Easter without some smarmy marketing person telling me I should buy a card and other stuff, and having store isles taken over with 'seasonal' meaningless shiny trinkets.

Now some marketing person named Jeff Wills, of Wills & co Media Stratagies wants to inflict upon my well earned serenity and repose, another fucking Hallmark event.

From his site:

Quote:

VC Guy probably knows better, and here's what he wished he could have been quoted as saying:

  • To begin with, not all social media hits (basic exposure to messages) are the same: Is a dedicated Facebook page the same as a one line post buried in a chatroom that no one will ever see?
  • What counts as an engagement? Is someone reading a chat trail months after a campaign as valuable as an active participant in that discussion. Is a lurker as good as a fan?
  • Analytics for social media are all over the place still (although this is job #1 for a lot of people), so what are these efficiencies based on? (We've had to calculate this for clients and it's not easy - how do you obtain the number of readers on a tiny blog?)
  • Marketers will receive both good and bad earned media hits. Read through any chatroom and you will rarely find that everyone is on the same page. So does a marketer accept negative hits the same way they take positive ones?

There's a ton of value in having consumers talk about your brand or interact with it online and offline.

As one of the paid gatekeepers of this particular corner of social media, I've been up to my wazoo lately in 'marketers' whether its cheesy essay writing sevices or someone trying to brand a new social 'event' by inserting it into this website. I don't care so much about facebook, that's really their reason for existance. This however is a discussion forum with standards.

So, I put it out to the babble community, is this commercial spam, even though there's not an immediate product or service offered for sale, or a legitimate topic for discussion on an internet forum such as babble?

I'm inclined to think it's spam.  Though if Katy S ever comes back we could certainly ask her why she's just so very, very excited at the thought of this day (and evidently interested in nothing else).

I definitely thought the OP was guerilla-marketing spam.

ETA: although, it could also be a piece of performance art a la the Apology Service

ETA2: but it's definitely not sincere:

KatyS (and again) and friends have been around.

Hahaha this is awesome. I have had a few mishaps in the past... Hopefully this holiday will help people forgive/be forgiven. We're only human after all. It's also pretty good timing - Feb 26, right after Valentine's Day and Family Day. I screwed up on both holidays and I really need this holiday to make amends.
On Valentine's Day I went out on a date to a cute restaurant with a guy I met recently. Halfway through the dinner I went to powder my nose and check my cell. I noticed that a girlfriend of mine sent me a message asking how the date was going, so I reponded saying, "Pretty brutal, this guy is super boring.. save me!" Unfortunately I sent the message to him by accident because he was the last one who called me. I went back to the table and he had received my message. Awkward!!!!! I wonder what I should do to "Do Over" my humiliating experience.
I also got in a fight with my sister on Family Day. Wonderful timing, I know. I'm thinking about taking her to the spa to do it over.

KatyS got in a fight with a blind date, her best friend and her sister all in this past week! This holiday surely is timely. I say we all jump on board. What's the subscription fee?

Think about it snert, on the 26th you could come back as someone else and start over.  Laughing

Wow! I'm actually interested in lots of things and maybe I am nerdy for getting excited about a cheesy holiday. I was just talking about it because I think it's a fun idea and my friends have been talking about it. I'm not a spammer... goshhhhhhhh forget about it!!

felt it was spam, and perhaps a set up for Harper to say sorry to the nation!  ;)

In honour of Dover Day

DOVER BEACH
By Matthew Arnold

The sea is calm tonight,
The tide is full, the moon lies fair
Upon the straits; on the French coast the light
Gleams and is gone; the cliffs of England stand,
Glimmering and vast, out in the tranquil bay.
Come to the window, sweet is the night air!

Only, from the long line of spray
Where the sea meets the moon-blanched land,
Listen! you hear the grating roar
Of pebbles which the waves draw back, and fling,
At their return, up the high strand,
Begin, and cease, and then again begin,
With tremulous cadence slow, and bring
The eternal note of sadness in.

Sophocles long ago
Heard it on the Agean, and it brought
Into his mind the turbid ebb and flow
Of human misery; we
Find also in the sound a thought,
Hearing it by this distant northern sea.

The Sea of Faith
Was once, too, at the full, and round earth's shore
Lay like the folds of a bright girdle furled.
But now I only hear
Its melancholy, long, withdrawing roar,
Retreating, to the breath
Of the night wind, down the vast edges drear
And naked shingles of the world.

Ah, love, let us be true
To one another! for the world, which seems
To lie before us like a land of dreams,
So various, so beautiful, so new,
Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light,
Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain;
And we are here as on a darkling plain
Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight,
Where ignorant armies clash by night.
