                                    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Former foster child, John Dunn of Ottawa, Ontario spends his days advocating for increased transparency and accountability of child-welfare services across Canada through the Foster Care Council of Canada, an organization of which he is the founding, volunteer executive director.

During the month of June 2010, John will be riding his bicycle from Ottawa to Windsor, accompanied by a banner-clad truck and camper-trailer in an effort to raise awareness of the fact that Children's Aid Societies across the province are in dire need of increased transparency and accountability to ensure that children and youth's rights are being adhered to, applicable laws are being complied with, and offences are no longer being committed by these agencies, their staff, or board members and that the Ministry of Children and Youth Services has a more active role in overseeing Children's Aid Societies and enforcing the Child and Family Services Act and it's regulations.

It is hoped the ride will garner the attention and active response from the public, professionals, and government authorities, who all have a moral, and/or statutory responsibility to oversee Children's Aid Societies and investigate where necessary as opposed to simply stating that the Ministry only "monitors" the Societies without taking any actions.

The ride starts JUNE 1ST NEAR THE CAS IN OTTAWA ON TELESAT COURT
(IF IT IS WET OR A RAINY DAY, THE NEXT SUNNY DRY DAY - SITE SITE FOR RAIN DATES)

We are interested in having aboriginal child-welfare related issues addressed during the ride and ask that anyone who wishes to work with us briefly to add this content to our site, and to attend the launch of the ride with aboriginal speakers and possibly drumming to accompany the ride as it leaves and passes the CAS building... please contact John Dunn at 613-220-1039 or by e-mail at [email protected] to make arrangements.

Has anyone here ever dealt with a CAS either as an advocate or support to someone who has been dealing with a CAS or as a professional, or even as a client (former foster kid or family of child in care?)
