The Bruins have lost the services of Sturm and Krejci. I dunno. I think whoever wins tonight in Pittsburgh would rather play the injury riddled Bruins than the surging Flyers.
Penguins are notoriously dangerous in seventh games. I hope the Habs will continue destroying the Pens five on five. Pressure's all on the Penguins tonight. And very many people are expecting them to win.

Watching Crosby give out that cross-check after the end of third period play, says a thousand things about the immaturity of the team, and its leadership. Yes, Pittsburgh is the better team on paper, but Montreal seems to be enjoying themselves a whole hell of a lot, and in that light, I predict that Pittsburgh chokes in this game.

The real problem is that the new rules intended to create more scoring, also increase the effect of having an early lead. Hence, we are getting fewer close games because desperate teams are forced to take riskiers plays and now turn the puck over more. We saw this last night with Vancouver ast well.
Is the play-off overtime classic over and done with?

I know Crosby was pretty frustrated after the loss, but his comments were pretty classless wrt the Habs. The Habs have now stymied two of the most potent offences in the NHL, and he had nothing but crap to say about them ("I guess we'll see what happens with them"). And then he had the nerve to throw in a complaint about the penalty he took ten seconds in. There's one team that has a reason to complain about the refereeing this series and it ain't Pittsburgh.
I think the bottom line is that Muller and Martin figured out a way to stop Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh couldn't adjust. They were justly beaten.

Jeez, Catch', I'd have expected you to be more gracious in victory.
It's obvious that the only explanation for this win has to be 100 years of Hab mojo. Did anyone else notice the ghost of Jean Beliveau speaking to the players before they went onto the ice? Who in Pittsburgh's past could play such a role, Ken Schinkel?

Besides, I went in half-cheering for Crosby but he hasn't exactly covered himself in glory. His comments at the end grated a bit. Although I suppose I wouldn't know what to do if what happened to him happened to me.

I don't know what to say, really: Fleury lets one trickle under his skate and into the net; Orpik decides to run interference on his own goaltender by inexplicably trying to repeatedly push LaPierre through the back of the net; then Pittsburgh gives the puck to the Canadians and Camallari scores; Gonchar seems to be thinking about his upcoming summer vacation while Moen casually passes to himself as he walks by Gonchar in slow motion and scores.
The Penguins own this loss and penalties had nothing to do with it, really.

I have a framed Sports Illustrated cover from June 2, 1986 in the hallway at home -- Canadiens: Back to Glory, with Gainey, Robinson and Naslund holding up the Cup -- and I was thinking my son would make fun of it when he got back from McGill this summer, after Habs were again eliminated in the 1st or 2nd rounds,
BUT, the best parallel to the present (so far) is 1986: super-hot goaltender taking a young and inexperienced team way past their betters;
1993 was a different story, the Islanders did us the service of eliminating Mario and the Penguins early on .....
anyway, best to remain modest and understated:

ok, I am a huge huge Expos fan and lived and died with that team,
but :
1) Larry Walker left because he was forced to by ownership
and 2) no one has ever blamed the players for the 1994 LOCKOUT; it was certainly not a strike, MLB just closed down ..
back to Montreal's other sport, I sure hope Bruins rally, I would rather not face revved-up Flyers next round

The talking heads at TSN all picked Chicago to win over San Jose. I have to admit that I'd prefer to see San Jose win that one and I'm a little surprised that they ALL made the pick they did.
Actually, I'd like to see certain Chicago players suffer horribly disfiguring injuries on the way to a bloody defeat. But that's just my cheerfulness coming through.

I think the experts are all rating teams based on their reg season performance from game#1-->game#82 and assuming that the same teams would duplicate their win-loss records based on the regular season snapshot. But teams can come together toward the end of the season and play like contenders. I think that the way teams play is more cyclical than a straight line constant. Things change and players sometimes learn to jell with one another. The Canes, for example, played better hockey toward the end. A number of Habs players were new to the team last Fall. And the playoffs are a brand new season. Winning teams have only to play slightly better than .500 hockey each series in order to move on. I think PHI-MON will be a good series with the attacking and fore-checking style of Laviolette's Flyers versus the Habs patient D game.

It was only 2-1, but consider Chicago had all the penalties, and Marleau, Heatly and Thornton were on the ice for the Sharks for both goals, and San Jose's lone goal was, if not a "fluke" certainly not one that's going to get the goalie second guessing himself.
One has to like Chicago's chances in this series based on that game.

I was a bit concerned that the California fix might have been invoked in the Sharks-Hawks game, as Chicago was taking all the penalties. I'm rooting for the Winnipeg boys in that series, even though Setoguchi played in Saskatoon and the only NHLer I ever knew, Jeff Odgers, used to be San Jose's captain.
