Katz still leading Wasylycia-Leis in latest poll for Winnipeg Mayor

28/06/2010

The gap between mayoral candidates Sam Katz and Judy Wasylycia-Leis is a little closer, according to a Probe Research poll conducted earlier this month on behalf of CBC Manitoba.

The poll suggests Mayor Sam Katz is the choice of 54 per cent of decided voters, while Wasylycia-Leis is 11 points behind at 43 per cent. Avery Petrowski, the third registered candidate, sat at three per cent in the poll, which was conducted between June 8 and 22 from a random sample of 600 Winnipeg adults. The poll's margin of error was four per cent.

In a previous Probe poll conducted in March on behalf of the Winnipeg Free Press, Katz enjoyed 51 per cent of voters' support out of a field of five potential candidates. Wasylycia-Leis was 15 points behind with 36 per cent.

I wish they would tell us what percent are undecided.

They haven't decided.

This could be a newly-discovered Donald Rumsfeld poem:

"There are the decided decided-

Those are the ones who know they know how they'll vote.

And there are the decided undecided-

Those are the ones who know they DON'T know how they'll vote.

But there are also the undecided undecided-

Those are the ones who do not know they do not know how they'll vote".

Looks like 17% are undecided - but is interesting that in a reverse of the usual right/left demographic split, Judy W-L leads among older people, while Katz's lead is largely built on 18-34 year olds - very few of whom will actually vote.

Does that mean somebody could form "SK8ER  BOIZ 4 Katz"?

Katz probably has Shatneresque "Sh*t My Dad Says" appeal--not unlike Mel Lastman back in the day...
