Sarah Palin to host nature show on "Da Larnin' Shannel"

Read it and weep:

Apparently the ad buyers were not impressed. This Discovery insider said, "When the promo was over, people (employees and buyers) were rolling their eyes, snickering, and even laughing. People were laughing and it's not even a comedy. No one took it seriously."

Remember Discovery is paying Sarah Palin $250,000 an episode for this series. There are eight episodes, so she will be clearing $2 million for this possible disaster (TLC will be spending between $800,000 to $1.2 million per episode for the whole production). The ratings for her new show on Fox News Channel were already low (she couldn't even hold on to Greta Van Susteren's audience). Imagine how much worse she'll do on TLC where the audience presumably wants to learn something, i.e. the exact opposite of what Sarah Palin is known for. What's next for TLC, George Bush's Ranch?

I think the author misses the game here.   This wasn't an attempt by Discovery Inc. to make money off Sarah Palin by having her host a nature show on Alaska-- this is just a pretext to funnel a couple million her way for her Presidential run.

These folks would have us go after the advertisers, which is not a bad idea:

However, what really should be done is blowing the whistle on this flimsy pretext for a political donation that does and end run around campaign finance rules.

But is that subterfuge any longer really necessary given the USSC's decision to open the floodgates on corporate campaign funding?

Probably not.   But I think what is important is to let Discovery know that a lot of people know the pretext for what it is, and that Discovery is in fact backing Palin's political asperations.

If they were comfortable with identifying with Palin politically, they wouldn't invent such a pretext.

In the US dollars equals elections wins. Period. Even Obama.

Sad thing is I think canadians are almost at that point. We use to have a resilience to it. But full on propaganda for 4 years out of 90%+ of the media and outright lies from the con party on their commercials and conbot blog trollers its getting impossible to unmuddy the water and get through the fuzz.

You can count on them to shoot themselves in the foot like the census, yet they don't drop in the polls. I thought we had more intelligence than that. It can't all be flying under the radar. Chomsky points out how a lot of the working poor are too busy scrambling to get by they don't have time to look at the regular issues never mind anything in depth. Poor=Ignorance(to a degree, not willful) as they are forced to make decision between family and self education,- family always wins.
