ONDY slugfest

What would be the point of the NDP running someone against Adam Vaughan now that he is an incumbent? He is one of the most progressive people on council and in fact I think his voting record is more progressive than some councillors who are actually NDP members (ie: Maria Augimeri and Tony Perruzza). Given that parties have no official standing in Ontario municipal elections anyways - why run against someone who already has a perfect voting record from an NDP perspective? Now, IF Vaughan swung wiildly to the right and started supporting Ford on everything (highly unlikely) - I suspect he would face stiff opposition next election from someone to the left of hikm - who may or may not be an NDP member.

And the point is that Adam is obviously the most viable candidate for TS. As well, there is no one else able to put up a competative bid. My point was, similar to the point about Joe Pantalone, who Stockholm viewed as not being a "serious" candidate. The fact that the NDP can not attract "serious" and viable candidates to run is also a sign of weakness.

Protesting that it is not the NDP's fault that it can not find viable candidates on the left who are willing to throw there lot in with the NDP is hardly a sign of strength. Why is it that viable candidates are not banging on the door of the NDP riding association looking for "the NDP blessing".

I also don't agree that they don't have a stake in the Adam Vaughan fire, but that is just my impression based on what I see going on locally. I really don't think they would endorse anyone to run against Vaughan, for a number of reasons. For example, why offend someone who they think might not make a bad Liberal/NDP compromise mayoralty candidate by trying to unseat him, when they can wait for him to vacate, and try and win the seat then?

He did swing wildly to the right. He endorsed George Smitherman.

Cueball, are you really that dumb?

The endorsement of Smitherman was at the tail end of a campaign when it became obvious that Pantalone was out of the running.

It had almost no political meaning.  I assume it was an attempt to derail Ford.  It didn't work.  I am unwilling to throw people into the utter darkness just because they are willing to go along with what they perceive as the lesser evil.

Endorsements (and speeches in general) don't matter.  Votes matter.  Let's see what he does before we decide where he is.

so did Joe Mihevc and Pam McConnell who are NDP members - big deal! What choice did they have - no one else had any chance of defeating Ford. In any case there was never any "official" NDP candidate for mayor since officially the NDP does not exist at the municipal level and has no official standing. Tell us something we don't already know.

Probably not, just toxic and manipulative.

No. You are really that dumb.

Councillors McConnell, Adam Vaughan - another of the mayor-elect's harshest critics and a police board member - and centrist Frank Di Giorgio currently sit on the board.

Speculation also pointed to Vaughan being turfed, but on Friday Doug Ford said he had spoken with the Trinity-Spadina councillor and that he was "impressed - you can quote me on that."

Toronto Star

Adam Vaughan simply refuses to not be a player.

If we could not call people dumb, toxic or other baseless insults, that would be grand.

In the meantime, closing for length.
