Not officially, I don't think. The FBI has described the U.S. JDL as "terrorist" and of course there have been convictions of individuals for terrorist acts, but I don't think it's a "banned" organization in the sense of (say) Hezbollah in Canada. Likewise, Israel banned two parties, Kach and Kahane Chai, in 1994, both founded by or connected with Meir Kahane (founder of the JDL in the U.S.), but I don't think the JDL as such was active in Israel.

i am acquainted with Ron Banerjee, in fact, we've been exchanging emails for the last 15 minutes or so about this event.

he said he was a guest speaker inside, and he claims that his Hindu Advocacy (sic) and JDL security 'assisted' police in 'arresting thugs'. he also insists that the 'security acted lawfully' and says that they 'seized' a large amount of 'paraphanalia' dropped by 'cowards as they ran away'.

although we're not friends, but i have tried to help Ron in the past. i always confront him when racism, bigotry and homophobia spews from his mouth, but it seems that my efforts fall on deaf ears as he just can't or won't stop. i've come to the conclusion there really seems to be something wrong with his thinking.

Nothing "vile" or even remotely antisemitic was uttered and given the number of JDL video cameras and the presence of a National Post reporter you can be sure if any such thing was said it would be on YouTube and the right wing hate blogs by now.

The chants were "JDL go to Hell" "EDL go to hell" references to the EDL being nazis etc. The most "controversial" yell was one antifa shouting to the JDL "we like what you did to Zundel's house" referencing the JDL's alleged involvement in the firebombing of the Zundelbunker in the 90s.

As for Banerjee, he is an odd guy. For instance, a few years ago he was thought to be posting on babble pretending to be an anti-Banerjee guy in order to give himself more attention.
