So, every now and then, a babbler accosts Maysie or me, asking for their handle to be changed, citing any number of reasons. "Being drunk doesn't count as a reason, oldgoat," I usualy respond.
We here at babble usually resist changing handles, because it's not like a new suit of clothes. It's an identity, it's how people know you, and in the interests of building community, it's necessary to have some kind of stability. That said, name-changing does happen--and since one of our moderators partook in this dubious practice, we can scarcely deny it to others with a straight face.
Yet we must approach this question with reticience and caution. Back in the day, there used to be an annual amnesty where babblers could change their handle. I don't remember when it was, and I don't care to look it up. So Maysie and I have decided on a new day: February 14. There you have it: a 24-hour period where any requests made in this thread will be honoured and I or Maysie will change your handle to the new one. We reserve the right, of course, to deny any change if the new handle is offensive, confusing or if we just plain don't like you (oldgoat, I'm looking at you).
So, starting to midnight tonight, let the floodgates open.
