Ack! Help needed for MS Word (running on a Mac)

So I'm working on some documents and all of a sudden my 3-line Word toolbar across the top of my document has disappeared and it looks almost like a WordPad document now.

I can't work under such conditiions! I need to change fonts at any time!

Seriously, I know it must be a small and easy fix, but I can't find it.

Help!

You should still have the 'file/edit/view toolbar along the top.  Just go to 'view,' 'toolbars,' and select any toolbar you want to use.

Maysie, for the past couple of years I've been using the NeoOffice suite, which is a nifty bit of freeware that allows you to write documents and convert them easily into PDFs.  There's also spreadsheets, html documents, and their equivalent of Powerpoint.  I highly recommend these for keeping your Mac a Microsoft-free zone.  There's also a NeoWiki if you have questions.

Sineed, I get enough lectures about the evils of the Gates Empire and going with free software from radiorahim. Tongue out

How Michelle puts up with him I'll never understand. lmao.

I know, I know, I shouldn't use the damn MS evilness, but I bought the Office Suite for Mac because it needs to be compatible with all my documents for clients and other professional stuff. My life is in Word, PP and sometimes Excel. Sad but true.

So please forgive me for supporting the evil machine. PLEASE!!

Now, can someone help me?

nvm, a helpful FB friend has come to my rescue.

Now, let the lecturing continue.

Ask and ye shall receive

I am afraid I don't have the user's manual handy, but it is still pretty easy to use - in techno speak, it is intuitive. I strongly recommend the long handled versions, they are easier to control and you get much, much better leverage.

Ya mean you're not linux yet??  Laughing

Interesting, bagkitty. One of my (un)helpful FB friends suggested throwing my laptop out the window.

I like the sledgehammer idea better. Might help me get out some of that pent-up hostility.

Oh, and in case anyone was dying of suspense about the resolution of my crisis (at least, my crisis today), I had accidentally clicked the small grey oval button in the top right corner of my Word document. Small grey oval buttons are all over the place in Macs and the rule is leave them the fuck alone. So now I know why.

This is for Sineed: you don't need any nifty little programs to convert to pdf on a Mac.  Smile

And this is for Maysie: I think you should go to the bookstore and buy one of those "Missing Manual" books for MS Office for Mac. I know they're expensive and I always think, "what a waste of trees" but they can be very helpful.

Michelle

Well, we all have our crosses to bear.  :D

It's not all, bad, though.  He has been watching the entire Babylon 5 series with me, despite the first few cheesy episodes that made him wonder whether he was going to survive the rest.  And he looks cute in longjohns.

Besides, I get some fun out of it on the very seldom occasion when his computer does something or other that he didn't want it to do, and I say, perfectly innocently, "Oh...that's too bad.  My computer doesn't do that."  I only do that when I have the time and energy for another lecture, though. ;)

You  see Maysie, I'm so under your skin that I don't even have to lecture you any more...I've got you doing it to yourself Tongue out

Glad you liked it Maysie... we can be Luddites together.

Damn you, radiorahim!

@ bagkitty, the only issue is whether to use it on my computer or on myself.

I would suggest the computer, it takes nine months to make a new human, much less to make a new computer.

That's pretty cool. Also, if people are really into working with MS .doc, xls, .ppt, .pdf, and even OpenOffice .odt file formats, Google docs allows you to read, edit or save to those file formats. You can upload any of those file formats to the web or create anew using web-based google docs. And you can access them from any puter with an internet connection or smart phone.
