Can we close this thread?  I honestly did not think that we New Democrats could get quite so vicious.

She crossed the floor to get a critic portfolio...there you have it.  So what?

The party has its floor crossing bill back before the House right now under Mathieu Ravignat.

It's not "the party" - it's a private member's bill. Caucus members are free to vote for or against it, if it ever comes to a vote.

The idea that this (or ATM fees for that matter) was quickly forgotten is nonsense.

It's not "nonsense". The ATM fees issue was a pandering issue - never caught on - and was never emphasized in the last campaign. It did, however, make it into the official NDP election platform.

Floor-crossing didn't even rate a mention.

Bad editing?

Expanding Mulroney's NAFTA was not listed in the LPC platform in 1993. In fact they promised not to in emphasizing the lie.

Similarly, the NDP has not promised to never enact legislation to stop floor-crossing if elected. They could do it and still be ethically superior to the LPC. "wink"

I've been trying to point this out for 2 or 3 years.  I'm glad someone else recognizes.  I've never understood why some ND's are so vicious here.  I started out by trying to broker some co-operation between those such as myself who have worked for both the Liberals and the NDP in the past, but was shouted down at every turn.

Just as the Liberal Party needs to drop its arrogant attitude if it wants to get back into power, the NDP also needs to change its attitude if it wants to increase its support among Canadians.

Just to be clear, admonishing the Liberal-style viciousness of this thread has nothing to do with the very well-reasoned arguments I have read debunking most of Debater's thoughts - I quite respect those!

Welcome back, Debater.  When I saw the headline in the Globe, I was wondering whether you'd grace us with a visit.  Wink

Edited to add: please feel free to join the Leadership thread, Debater - your presence always seems to have a unifying effect on us NDs!

Cripes this is a long, ugly thread. Closing for shittiness.
