"An intelligence officer with the Canadian Forces has been arrested for allegedly passing secrets to a foreign entity or terrorist group. Jeffrey Paul Delisle, who lives in the Bedford area of Halifax, was charged on the weekend...
A senior defense official told CBC News that Delisle joined the reserves in 1966 and became a regular soldier in 2001. The official said the alleged breaches did not pose a threat to public safety.
He said Delisle worked for a unit called HMCS Trinity. Trinity is an intelligence facility at the naval dockyard in Halifax. It tracks vessels entering and exiting Canadian waters via satellites, drones and underwater devices. The accused would have had clearance to at least top secret information, if not higher..."

The heavy militarization of bases in Middle East from Iraq to Qatar is a clear breach of the pact made by GHW Bush that paved way for German unification in 1990 and Soviet dissolution a year after. ..."When we ask for the name of the countries that the shield is aimed at, we get silence. The officer is believed to have spied for Russia. Lt. Jeffrey Delisle is the first Canadian indicted for violation of the Security of Information Act, which was adopted after the 9/11 terror attack in the US. He is expected to appear for a bail hearing in a Halifax court on Wednesday.
There are few official comments on the accusations so far. But the leak may be among the largest security breaches in a decade, roughly matching the embarrasing WikiLeaks data loss, a source familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal. The breach is said to have touched upon a system open to the the so-called Five Eyes, an intelligence alliance between the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Delisle would have been granted higher access than level III top secret. Much of the safeguarding of designated material depends on trust, more than procedural checks and balances, which have been proven inadequate in this instance.
