Am I the only one who thinks Bob Rae was an idiot to apologize to Harper and fire the staffer?

I'm glad he did, though, because the Twitterati are going to realize what a chickenshit he really is.

I agree.

I am SO ANGRY with Bob Rae and the Liberals right now.  Vic Towes is not the victim, and does not deserve an apology.  He was a moral values crusader whose hypocrisy deserved to be exposed and the Liberal staffer did the right thing.

Of course, the Canadian Press is also responsible for all this trouble.  If they had done their job and exposed Vic Towes for the liar that he is, the Liberal staffer would not have had to do the job himself.

Tories just got a "get out of jail free" card.

Bob Rae lost my vote today.

But anyway, what makes me hopeful is that so far about 85% of respondents to the Power & Politics poll are saying they do not think the Liberals have lost credibility on the robocalls controversy because of Vikileaks.

So maybe that means the Cons won't get away with this.  Smile

Well it was harassment in general. There are better ways to defeat an opponent.

And I love how Rae simply gets a slap on the wrist for this. If an NDP staffer did this, Turmel would be public enemy numero uno.

Bottom line is:  why did the Canadian press not do its job and publish details of Toews' adultery, divorce and moral values hypocrisy?

Why was it left to a staffer in a political party to do the job?

Liberal staffer behind 'Vikileaks' campaign

By "Liberal tactics" do you mean intelligent, funny activism that gets across an excellent point while protesting a hypocritical bully?

If it had turned out to be an NDP member or staffer, would you be as disapproving as you seem to be now?  Cripes, I was HOPING that it turned out to be someone in the NDP with that kind of creativity.

Because I don't disapprove at all.  I think it was an excellent social media campaign, and if Rae had half a brain, he'd give the kid a raise and a promotion to the campaigns team instead of firing him.  And I hope that Justin Trudeau, who poor little Wandering Dick Vic is now whining about retweeting the Vikileaks link, tells him to go piss up a rope instead of apologizing.  Along with Bob Rae, if he tries to make him.

The only stupid thing was to do this from a House of Commons computer.   If this staffer had a clue they wouldn't have posted from their employer's net connection.

The Conservatives hate Justin Trudeau because he's often right and is very popular (has the 2nd-highest number of Twitter followers after the PM).

But there's nothing they can do - they won't be able to defeat him because they are hated in Justin's riding.  They only got 5% of the vote in Papineau last year!  Laughing

Dynamite post, Michelle. Well done.

noted that both the Cons & Libs made a young staff take the hit for their respective parties!

Hear, hear Michelle and janfromthebruce.

Rae gave the "I'm better than you" apology.

The NDP would officially condemn such activity even if they covertly accept it only because they need to use the rules of procedure as weapons.  In a video the day after the election, Libby Davies talked about activists being able to do things that MPs couldn't that they both had different roles in the fight.

That seven day anonymous thing - I doubt that they have uncovered a scandal that the other politicians don't have an inkling about.

THat's interesting, so you agree with Justin that Quebec should separate if the Tories stay in power? I thought that the one and only thing that all federal Liberals believed in was Canadian unity...if that is no longer such a sure thing - what is left for Liberals to believe in?

I think Justin blew his big chance when the Bloc Quebecois leadership was up for grabs. He should have run for that!

Why is the speaker even investigating if no laws or Parlimentary rules have been broken?

Debater

I'm not sure where you're going with this Stockholm.  That's not what Justin was saying.  He was saying that many Quebecers feel isolated and disconnected from the Harper Conservatives and do not see themselves as part of this government or its views.  He was not actually outright advocating for separation.

What does this have to do with Vic Toews?  Smile

Caissa

Maybe Justin should join the NDP. We'll consider it trade for tha MP who jumped to the Libs.

I don't trust Justin - though I think that he has more political savy than Rae does.  Justin knows how to play the long game.

If Sheila Copps was the interim instead of Rae, that staffer would have been invited to join the Rat Pack, and given a raise. Smile

I haven't watched the CFL since the days of Russ Jackson and Bobby Simpson. Simpson was our neighbour in the 1950s and I shovelled the snow off his driveway every winter for a few bucks, also delivered newspapapers to his place. Great guy.

I agree.  His critics think he's just a drama queen, but he's very smart.  He's even figured out a way to get praise from BQ voters - something he didn't have before.  Wink

Btw, I haven't been able to check yet, but does anyone know if Papineau is the Conservatives' worst result in Canada?  They only got 4.87% of the vote there last year.  It must be close to their worst result in the entire country.

There is supposed to be something in Toews Provencher riding on March 3.  Get the word out.  Info from the latest Anonymous video.
