Nice to have you around again with your input.

James Moore is an observer, and he has been interviewed a few times already... you got to credit the man, he knows how to repeat the Harper-vetted message.

"They're all the same. Bigger taxes, bigger government and central control."

"Hard left. Hard, hard left."

Why do they even bother? He's been saying the exact same thing all day, no matter what questions they ask him.

Got in twice. Twice it wouldn't register my vote. WTF?

Try refreshing when you get the problem screens.  That's what I did and it seemed to work.  Hit refreshed and it went to the next screen and so on.

Wilf Day

On my fourth "vote," it registered. Only took one hour and 15 minutes.

Anyone watching the game?

Panna

Was Harper wearing his vest and cowboy hat?

:)

NorthReport

Just saw Harper and Rae commensurating about Mulcair's victory over dinner at a restaurant in Calgary a few minutes ago. They were both bawling their eyes out. Rae was upset because his application to rejoing the NDP had been rejected, and Harper because he was now seriously regretting his comments about wanting to obliterate the Liberal Party.

NorthReport

Yup! Laughing

Panna

So much for going to El Sol for dinner.  We're ordering Thai in.  (BTW, if anyone lives on the Danforth in Toronto, Red Chilli Thai restaurant is great!)  And we're switching to the hockey game so we can catch the rest of it.  Who knows, maybe the Leafs will win now that it no longer matters.

Mansbridge just said a Mulcair victory before the results are in!  He's taking it for granted that Tom has won.

So did Topp supporter Alexandre Boulerice, on CPAC. He predicted Topp will have 40%. He went on to discuss how great Mulcair will be, while explaining that he (Boulerice) agreed with Topp on issues like raising taxes for the 1%. Excellent speech. Very impressive guy.

Brachina

If this was just about making sure the winner got a large majority, Topp wouldn't have taken a cheap bonus shot at Tom. I have this horrifying image in my head of Brian flipping Tom and bird before walking off stage, I hope I'm wrong.

Also the party brass will probably pressure Brian into publicly reacting some of his statements.

Panna

A tantrum!

I hope not.  That would be horrendous.

Weston is such an asshole. They were showing what he was saying on twitter. Very VERY unprofessional what he said about Layton.

dacckon dacckon's picture

As someone who supported Topp, I hope that he does disappear in Canadian federal politics in order to avoid the media assumptions that will follow. (A perceived split)

His talents will still be needed in social democracy, but not federally.

Not a chance. With 40% support, they need each other. I see Mulcair publicly inviting Brian to get into the house. Maybe Sana Hassainia would be happier with a 9 to 5 job. Her riding is where Topp grew up.

hatfield

Wilf, I've been impressed with Alexander too, and think he should have a very front facing role in the party with the media - he's an impressive guy and should be part of the strong face of the NDP in Quebec and the RoC.

thorin_bane

Greg Weston:
Steve: It remains to be seen how much of the NDP win in Quebec was a one-time fluke. That said, the party's popularity in Quebec would certainly take a major hit if the party chose anyone but Mulcair as its leader

Greg Weston:

Joanna: Yes. Absolutely. BTW -- the party's beloved Jack was already moving it there(to the centre)

The last leader able to pander to Quebec separatists without driving the West nuts was Brian Mulroney. Say not more.

God I hate the CBC these days.

thorin_bane

I posted some of what Jerk Weston said. His sarcasm and contempt are pretty plain in his language. Fluke, Beloved, Pander etc.

What did he say?

Brachina

Yep the cbc has been hijacked by dinks.

Anyway I agree Brian and Tom need to be seen as bffs for party unity.

Hey this frees Topp up for running the BC campaign like he planned.

Its why Harper is out of town, he would have no knowledge of this...look look NDP are incompetant for trying to vote!!! Incompetant I tell you.

Brachina

Dexter gave a speech earilier in the day trying fill the vaccum I hear.

Who do they have up on stage trying to keep the restless masses occupied?

Whatever happens...

Please let this be the last of the drummers. No offence to anyone.

Panna

I liked the drummers!

There has been a delay in the Rangers vs. Maple Leafs hockey game.  There has apparently been a cyber-attack on the score-board.

Policywonk

Topp and Broadbent are sounding much more conciliatory right now. Good on them.

I hear they're a permenant part of Mulcair's entourage.

Just picture them at every press conference, when he stands up during question period, and best of all during the summer bbq circuit.

Did the CBC broadcast the NDP "talking points" about Stephen Harper when he was elected leader of the Conservative Party, as he was entering the convention hall?

The bias is so obvious.

The beard alway's wins.

Wow, only 57%!  I'm surprised, actually.  A lot more Cullen supporters went to Topp than I had figured!

simonvallee

Brian Topp was quick to rally behind Mulcair, that's good.

dacckon dacckon's picture

Why wouldn't he? Only someone delusional would believe that he would flip him the bird or somethi-

thorin_bane

I like the result, despite Mansbridge thinking this is a MAJOR victory. Its very close and it means Mulcair still has to remember a significant number of the NDp WILL splinter off if we move too far away from being social democrats.

dacckon dacckon's picture

nvm, I thought he was going to the hotel so quickly.

Hunky_Monkey

I'm about to cry :) I'm so happy :)

And great show of unity on the stage!

dacckon dacckon's picture

This is a social democratic/democratic socialist party. There's no reason for someone to not be an evolutionary socialist, especially after the fall of Blair/Brown in the UK. We'll do great!

Also the media is confusing me- Mansbridge asked WHERE IS BRIAN TOPP. one second later he is right next to Mulcair.

They are desperate for conflict.

Hunky_Monkey

Awesome @ Ed :)

simonvallee

...and Topp just went to congratulate Mulcair personally on stage, raising their hands together (nice photo op for the media to prove the unity of the party), as did Broadbent. Very good.

Yeah, don't bet on it. Verchères-Les-Patriotes is naturally Bloc territory. The NDP won by only 7 points in 2011, when they led the Bloc by 20 points globally in Québec. The Bloc has increased its support since 2011, and the NDP has fallen a bit. Don't bet too much money on Verchères staying Orange in the next election.

If they try a byelection to get Brian Topp in, all it would result in is a new Bloc MP. Ideally, they should have held the leadership race earlier on and Brian might have had a shot in Toronto-Danforth, which would have been appropriate as he was very close to Jack for all his time as MP. Too late for that now.

I'm not delusional...much or at least that's what my pet Purple Dragon keeps telling, but maybe I shouldn't listen him, he keeps telling me to go to the wrong polling station ;D

Save that picture - it may be the last time you see Topp or Broadbent (or LIbby Davies) anywhere near a position of power in the party for a long time

dacckon dacckon's picture

Nope, Topp should not be involved with the federal party. Avoid that media drama show completely.

pookie

Wow, this guy really has very little gift for oratory.  This isn't a laundry list - it's your acceptance speech for God's sake!
