Toronto, May 15: NAKBA DAY Rally in Solidarity with Palestinian Prisoners on Hunger Strike

http://samidoun.ca/2012/05/toronto-may-15-nakba-day-rally-in-solidarity-...

When: Tuesday, May 15, 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Where: Israeli Consulate, 180 Bloor St. W  (Bloor and Avenue Rd - NW Corner - across from the ROM)

"May 15, 2012, NAKBA DAY, commemorates the 64th anniversary of the ethnic cleansing of Palestine in 1947/8 when over 700,000 Palestines were forced to leave their homes and over 300 Palestinian villages and towns were destroyed.

This year NAKBA Day coincides with day 28 of the mass hunger strike for basic human rights by over 1500 Palestinian political prisoners.

In a statement critical of Israel's administrative detention policy, Human Rights Watch said, 'It shouldn't take the self-starvation of Palestinian prisoners for Israel to realize it is violating their due process rights. Amnesty International also issued a call for urgent action..."

Why the shameful silence of our politicians, even while the war criminal, Shimon Peres,  was here in the country? Does Mulcair's NDP Zionism, express 'the will of the majority'?

Six Palestinian Prisoners Refuse to End Hunger Strike

http://www.kuna.net.kw/ArticlePrintPage.aspx?id=2240512&language=en

"Six Palestinian longtime hunger striking prisoners refused Monday to end their protest against the Israeli policy of arbitrary detention until they are released. Earlier today the leaders of the Palestinian hunger striking prisoners and Israel Prison Service (IPS) reached an Egyptian-brokered deal to end the strike in exchange for non-extension of the administrative detention..."

Statement No. 7 of the Strike Leadership

http://samidoun.ca/2012/05/statement-no-7-of-the-strike-leadership/

"We have only two options: to achieve all of our demands, or to die.

We are now at the state of a great test of wills and we reject completely the attempts of the Prison Service management to force us to accept partial settlements in order to bring an end to this epic humanitarian struggle for justice..."

64 Years Since the NAKBA - by Ella David

http://english.pnn.ps/index.php/nonviolence/1651-64-years-since-the-nakba

"The NAKBA is the source of the still unresolved Palestinian refugee problem. Sixy-four years after this Catastrophe, Palestinians continue to be denied their freedom and independence. The 22 percent of historical Palestine that remains for Palestinians continues to be confiscated for the expansion of Israeli settlements and construction of the Apartheid Wall..."

What Thaer Halahleh's Family Told Me About His Release Brings Joy But Raises Troubling Questions

http://electronicintifada.net/blogs/linah-alsaafin/what-thaer-halahlehs-...

"...Is there a pattern here? It does look like Israel and those working with it to end the strike are creating conditions where prisoners are isolated from family, their own legal representation or independent medical personnel and then a 'good cop' lawyer of Israel's and the Palestinian Authority are brought in to pressure them to accept a deal.."

'US Silent on Palestinian Hunger Strikers in Pursuit of Votes' (and vid)

http://www.presstv.com/detail/2012/05/12/240870/us-silent-palestinian-hu...

"US Presidential candidates Barack Obama and Mitt Romney have been silent about Palestinian hunger strikers and they depend on the votes of 70 million Americans who support Israel, an analyst says.."

So what's the NDP's excuse? Do they not support humanitarian treatment and international norms? And why do party members permit this outrage? Canada's cruel mendacity...

PCHRO: The Nakba: The Perpetuation of an Unwanted Legacy

http://www.alhaq.org/advocacy/topics/population-transfer-and-residency-r...

"While the term NAKBA is seen as a reference to the murder, exile and devastation of the 1948 war, in reality, it could just as easily be used to describe the current belligerent occupation. The NAKBA did not end in 1948. The mass forcible transfer that occurred during and in the aftermath of the war was only the first stage of Israel's illegal policy of displacement that is being implemented with equal determination and precision to this day.

For the last six decades, the rights of those dispossessed have never been addressed. Today, seven million Palestinian refugees are scattered across the globe. The right of the Palestinians displaced by the wars in 1948 and 1967 has been framed by Israeli rhetoric as a political claim and continuously rejected. In truth, the right to return of those displaced by a conflict is a well established principle of international law..."
