First up - last weekend I had the opportunity to watch Constance Barnes launch her campaign to win the BCNDP nomination in Vancouver-False Creek.
I'm also reading that Geoff Meggs wants to go for Vancouver-Fairview, and Meena Wong for Vancouver-Langara.

The NDP actually came close to winning Vancouver-Langara in 1991...it shouldn't be winnable - but if coukld be winnable in a 50% to 20% blow-out. Vancouver-Quilchena on the other hand will be Liberal even if they lose 84 out of 85 seats!

If Colin Hansen decides not to run again, it's a reasonably good guess that Christy Clark will try and shuffle over to Quilchena.

Constance Barnes running in False Creek is interesting - I had not heard about that. The fact that a serious candidate is stepping up this early suggests to me that they think they can take it. Last election's lopsided result was due to the fact that the NDP was left scrambling to find a last-minute candidate after the central campaign threw Ray Lam under the bus over the "racy" Facebook photo "scandal".
A lot of people have written off False Creek / Yaletown as "Rich Asshole / Yuppieville", but I have always maintained that this seat (my constituency) is perfectly winnable for the NDP with a little bit of work. Don't let the overheated Yaletown condo prices fool you - according to the most recent census data, the majority of people in the riding rent rather than own. Household income is almost exactly the provincial average. Residents tend to be young and well-educated - a demographic that is usually at least willing to consider a vote for the NDP.
Anyways, I'm glad to see that the BC NDP seems to be taking this constituency seriously this time out. I look forward to a competitive race next May!

yeah, seems to me that the ndp should take point grey with even a 5 point victory, particularly since it's been the leader's seat for almost 20 years, and has high symbolic value. that said, maybe clark will just go down with the ship - why stay on to lead a rump opposition party when there are other possibilities for a woman of her age and accomplishment. politicians rarely think this way, but it would make ease her departure considerably, should she be looking for one.

Bekayne, he's been involved in politics, electorial for a long time it seems and an activist. Should be very interesting.
He's run for the Green Party in the past. Though I doubt the NDP establishment would be too fond of him as a candidate, as they wouldn't want the Leader to be asked questions about some DOA lyrics.
