Nessie a Plesiosaur? Louisiana To Fund Schools Using Odd, Bigoted Fundamentalist Textbooks

Quote:
This 2012-2013 school year, thanks to a bill pushed through by governor Bobby Jindal, thousands of students in Louisiana will receive state voucher money, transferred from public school funding, to attend private religious schools, some of which teach from a Christian curriculum that suggests the Loch Ness Monster disproves evolution and states that the alleged creature, which has never been demonstrated to even exist, has been tracked by submarine and is probably a plesiosaur. The curriculum also claims that a Japanese fishing boat caught a dinosaur.

On the list of schools approved to receive funding through the new voucher funding, that critics warn could eventually cut public school funding in half, are schools that teach from the Christian fundamentalist A Beka Book, Bob Jones University Press, and Accelerated Christian Education curriculum.

The upside is we know that the declining "super power' status of the US is inevitable.

cco

Absolutely. What kind of country has publicly funded religious schools, after all?

cco, I agree, but I was referring to content such as this:

Quote:
Could a fish have developed into a dinosaur? As astonishing as it may seem, many evolutionists theorize that fish evolved into amphibians and amphibians into reptiles. This gradual change from fish to reptiles has no scientific basis. No transitional fossils have been or ever will be discovered because God created each type of fish, amphibian, and reptile as separate, unique animals. Any similarities that exist among them are due to the fact that one Master Craftsmen fashioned them all.

Hm, maybe he shops at Canadian Tire?

Hmmm....  the master craftsman must have a dentist in the family, seeing as many human jaws are perfectly designed just a little bit too small to accomodate all their teeth.

And I guess the insects and plants which strangely have resistance to toxic agents were just hiding out in a hollow log for 6,000 years waiting for herbicides and insecticides to be invented.

And micro organisms which mutate all the time? I guess that's one of God's wondrous mysteries. Or maybe its because diseases really are the work of the devil.

The link in the OP needs a trigger warning for that gruesome image of racist violence.

I always post this when talk of evolution vs creationism comes up.

Good one! Laughing

If you put "Bob Jones University" on your resume, you might as well put down "University of Hee Haw". Laughing

6079_Smith_W

I don't know about that. Hee Haw pulls some serious weight in some parts, since it helped get rid of those goddamn reds the Smothers Brothers.

To some he was himself a god. Right up there with Par. Knowledge, in a state of conjecture, can pretty much smote anything.

Edit: just checked Wikipedia and I had my bobby jones confused. Heard of the university before and always assumed it was the golfer dude... wrong.
