Decisions favouring First Nations seems to have errupted a lot of racial acrimony.

The comments on the CBC are as racist as they get. Canadian settlers seem to think since they stole the land so long ago that the rightful owners should just STFU.
Gee... they really, really REALLY need to widen Kenaston, don't they? And there's no way they can expropriate from Superstore and the houses across the street, or get rid of that boulevard in the middle.
Clearly some of these whiners don't have a clue what an urban reserve is.

And if the're this bent out of shape about a piece of land that has been empty and idle for ages, I wonder what is going to happen if the Supreme Court finds in favour of the Metis land claim for 1.4 million acres, including the entire city. That case has been heard and the decision is pending.

It would be different if it were prime land, but the base is well away from downtown, and there is lots of land just south of the tracks near there that has been developed over the past decade or so without a squeak about road infrastructure.
If they are so driven by these racist stereotypes of poverty you'd think they'd get up in arms over the slum landlords and terrible housing that is already common enough in WInnipeg. To bad that is under city jurisdiction, not First Nation, otherwise they might be tempted to scream about it.
On the other hand, I wouldn't assume that a pack of internet trolls speak for the entire city.

Some of the comments are pure stupidity. I mean, LRT (who used to blog at the aptly named "Purple Helmet Rod") acts like the only thing preventing Kapyong Barracks from becoming some utopian dvelopment is the need to consult First Peoples. The whininng and moaning about the need to consult First Peoples about what to do with their land really reveals an ugly side to (certain types of) Winnipeg Urbanism.
The City, by the way, has expanded suburb after suburb in recent years, with none looking like LRT's plans.

Some people ain't too happy. I suspect we'll see a rise in ugly, anti-aboriginal sentiment in the prairies before the resolution of nonaboriginal-aboriginal tensions.
