The startling case of an AIDS patient who underwent a bone marrow transplant to treat leukemia is stirring new hope that gene-therapy strategies on the far edges of AIDS research might someday cure the disease.

The patient, a 42-year-old American living in Berlin, is still recovering from his leukemia therapy, but he appears to have won his battle with AIDS. Doctors have not been able to detect the virus in his blood for more than 600 days, despite his having ceased all conventional AIDS medication.

It's kind of like those times when you're looking all over the place for an item that you've lost and you just can't find it for the life of you.

Then some weeks, months or years later you're hunting around for something completely different and then you find the original thing you were looking for.

I loved the old "Connections" TV series by James Burke. He used to show how so many scientific discoveries were total accidents.

I have been a skeptic about the official HIV=AIDs line from the beginning. I am not writing to offend anyone with my views, but I support the work of Dr. Peter Duesberg, one of the most highly decorated retro-virologists' in the world, who maintains that retroviruses CANNOT cause AIDS. It goes against every principle of science to support such a theory.

I strongly encourage anyone and everyone to watch his video called, "HIV=AIDS: Fact or Fraud." You can google video it. It is two hours long.

In this video, Dr. Peter Duesberg outlines point by point the nature of retroviruses and how they cannot cause a severe deadly disease like AIDS. Then he explains how AZT is what is causing the deaths since it was introduced as the magical cure for AIDS.

I also strongly recommend people watch..."Gary Null: Deconstructing the Myth of Aids." This is a harder to follow video for someone not gifted with a strong scientific background, but it shows how HIV testing does not accurately test what it is designed to do. In fact, one study has shown that 90% of all positive HIV test results are false positives. There is no evidence of any HIV when scanned under an electromicroscope.

And..."House of Numbers" by Brent Leung. Mr. Leung interviews the key scientists in the HIV = AIDS hypothesis and catches all of them contradicting themselves on their positions. He also gets a lady testing for HIV to admit that they take one's sexual history and sexual orientation into account when determining whether the tests are positive or negative.

In Toronto, there is a support group called HEAL, which stands for Help Educate AIDS Learning.

Duesberg is a dangerous quack. He is responsible for thousands of deaths and an incredible amount of suffering in South Africa, whose government has taken his council in denying the AIDS epidemic and prevented people stricken with the disease from receiving treatment. He is dispicable, and so is anyone who promotes his thinking. That includes you.

Not true. Exactly the opposite. And he is not responsible for any deaths anywhere. He would be in prison if that were true. He would not still have his job as professor of Mictrobiology at the University of Berkely if any of those kinds of allegations were true.

There are a gazillion websites promoting the HIV= AIDS position everywhere.

The people who speak so authoritively on what Peter Duesberg is all about are the same ones who have never stopped to listen to a word he has said, nor read one word he has written. People with a grade 8 education can follow his analysis and understand the fallacies of logic put forth by the National Institute of Health and the CDC, and the people who scream that he is a murderer only put words in his mouth and try to redefine who he is.

retroviruses cannot kill their host cell. That is why the NIH studied them for many years as a possible cause of cancer, because they cannot KILL THEIR HOST CELL. If they killed the host cell like other viruses, they could not have been a possible cause for cancer because the cell is dead. Whatever is causing AIDS is killing the cells. That is why they have immune deficiency.

In people infected with HIV, it can be found in 1 in 1000 cells. That is why Robert Gallo never found HIV in the first place, and wny it took many MONTHS for the Pasteur Institute to isolate the retrovirus back in the 80s, and why Robert Gallo from the CDC in the United States had to STEAL the retrovirus from the French and cause an international scandal. It is too rare and obscure to be able to isolate.

Luke Montagnier, the virollogist who discovered HIV has even said himself that he does not believe that HIV has any link with AIDS.

Why has AIDs confined itself to the same high risk groups in North America and not killed everyone after 30 years? In North America, 93% of AIDS patients are male, and they are all within the same high risk groups. In Africa, it is 50%. Viruses do not work like this. They infect everybody the same way all across the globe.

I encourage everyone to read and educate themselves, and not to suppress ideas they see as different from their own. PEOPLE FEAR WHAT THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND. So, after thirty years, maybe its time to look at things from a different angle, and then formulate your own ideas yourself rather than believe what has been dictated to you from the top all along.

You can dismiss me as being a wacko or a lu lu, but hopefully someone out there will figure out that I genuinely do care.

Most scientists believe what they have been taught from credible sources, and they don't challenge what they have learned. Of the minority who have challenged the official HIV=AIDs hypothesis over the years, they have had their livelihoods threatened for questioning and have been suppressed from speaking out. Peter Duesberg's ideas are not a threat to the general public. They are a threat to the scientific establishment who have a lot to lose if the truth ever did fully surface.

AND...if my concerns are true, and Peter Duesberg is correct in what he is saying, the United States government, through the CDC, and the NIH, both arms of the United States Deparment of National Defence, is responsible for committing an abhorrent and reprehensible crime against humanity, and they need to be held accountable for their actions.

Duesberg does have blood on his hands. Please read the links. It is on his counsel that the South African government has refused treatment to its citizens. The scale of suffering is staggering and so is the death toll. It's without dispute. People have suffered and died because of his bullshit theory and you are beyond dispicable for promoting this garbage.

In Africa spam is about life saving AIDs drugs which always just drain the money and are fake. leaving people to die, poorer and unable to afford real help of any kind.

Poster is refusing to evaluate the beliefs. Beliefs are demonstrably bullshit.

330,000 dead. 35,000 babies who will live short, painful lives. Supporting the quackery that has caused this is... DISPICABLE. I've got another slew of discriptors that are not nearly as charitable - would you prefer I break them out? In other words, I'm actually being kind, here. Don't discourage me.

most people don't learn as efficaciously when you call them names; no need for you to restrain yourself given your privilege having access to the education here on Babble and countless other opportunities, why would that matter? everyone knows what you know, and this person is obviously choosing to ignore that information and has chosen a deliberate path to aid in the deaths of as many people as possible

as was mentioned earlier in the thread there is a desparate need for a cure and there are a great many people whose problem solving capacity and/or available resources leaves them with no choice but to listen to the first opinion regarding their treatment

I have no problem listening; and hopefully people will continue to seek additional information as basic problem solving dictates

Yes, there is a need for a cure. Meanwhile, many people are able to live with the disease because of ARVs (antiretroviral drugs). I don't want to see reasonable leads shut down, but the anti-science crap Duesberg peddles is anything but reasonable. We've seen the evidence. I don't see the point of indulging it with courtesy.

Trying to get this back on track...if an AIDS cure has, in fact, been found, do youi think that everyone who needs it will be allowed to have access to it? I remember the "God's judgment" rhetoric from the 1980's in the U.S.,(don't know if you had that in Canada at that point)and could easily picture "religious Right" types trying to limit access or bar government funding for access to an AIDS cure on the grounds that such a cure was "against God's will"(I could even picture Ratzenburger I issuing an encyclical against it).

Does anybody else see something that morally sadistic being a possibility?

I think that you can all refrain from your pompous self-flattery. And, it can work both ways. I have tried to educate you with information to research, and you have chosen not to be educated. And, people who disagree with you are not less educated, less informed, less anything, and certainly not responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people. Give it up.

And as for Gary Null speaking out against vaccinations, I don't necessarily disagree with him on that one either. I read a newspaper article by Dr. Gifford-Jones who talked about the use of high levels of vitamin C in treating polio. A medical doctor back in the late 1940s successfully treated 60 polio patients with very high levels of vitamin C, and they all fully recovered with no neurological damage. He tried in vain to get his findings heard by the AMA and they ignored him, There were no other successful options available to consider and they still ignored him to the detriment of many. This was six years before the first polio vaccination. Just imagine how many people had to spend the rest of their lives crippled or glued to an iron lung simply because the AMA would not consider this doctor's findings. He had a 100% success rate with no neurological damage and the AMA remained conspicuously silent.

If you can use vitamin C to successfully fight polio at doses of 100,000 to 350,000 mg daily intravenously, then perhaps it can work on HIV as well. NO ONE HAS EVER TRIED!!! And you won`t get the cooperation of the medical community because of the control the drug companies have on medical research.

I will expand even further. I was in a car accident and spent 4 months in the hospital. I met a lady in rehab whose 17 year old son was admitted two weeks before I was. He was paralyzed from the neck down. Four days before I was discharged, I saw this lady crying in the cafeteria. I asked her what was wrong. She told me that she just came back from the review by the Hospital medical review board. She said that they were all there...the neurologists, the interns, the resident doctor, the psychiatrist, the head nurse, the physio therapists, the occupational therapist, the social worker, the speech therapist...they were all there.

They told her that there was nothing that could be done for her son, that he would be paralyzed for the rest of his life and would not even have the benefit of using a communication device. They told her that normally, they are able to get many paralyzed people to move their fingers and wrists, but that her son would have no benefit of using his fingers at all.

I asked her what happened to her son, and she said that he is paranoid schizophrenic, and that he felt that people were poisoning his food, so he went on a crash diet and quit eating. His malnutrition was so severe that his nervous system shut right down.

I told her that the only thing wrong with her son is that he is malnourished, and that he is not getting his nutritional needs met simply by eating food. I told her to sneak vitamins into the hospital and not to let anybody know about it or else they would put a stop to it. Six weeks later, his nervous system shot back, and it took him a year of rehab to get his arms and legs properly working again. He is living at home and is doing well.

Doctors have 1 hour of formal training in nutrition and vitamins as part of their curriculum. That is not expertise. They are taught in university that vitamins have no role in health recovery, and that is all they know.

And please, do not jump to conclusions and assume I suggest that people stop taking their drugs and opt for vitamins instead. I am merely informing that there are other options and possibilities to explore if people choose to pursue other avenues.

I am also NOT proclaiming that vitamins CURES AIDS. I am suggesting that past findings using very high doses of some vitamins seems to appear very promising if applied to AIDS research.

Sure, but I would expect that profit would be the main barrier to access - not religious zealotry.
