Lesley Hughes cleared of anti-Semitic allegations in lawsuit settlement

You may recall that the abject coward Stéphane Dion revoked her federal candidacy in the 2008 election because of a smear campaign of lies by various Zionist organizations and the low-life Peter Kent (have I betrayed my biases on this matter?).

Good news:

Quote:

Local journalist Lesley Hughes is finally free of allegations of anti-Semitism.

A confidential out-of-court settlement has been reached in her defamation claim against federal cabinet minister Peter Kent, the Canadian Jewish Congress, B’Nai Brith of Canada and four senior members of the two Jewish organizations.

"I need to take a deep breath and resume my former life," the freelance journalist/broadcaster said Wednesday.

"I really hope that the doors that have been closed to for the last four years will open again," she said. "These were associations that were very important to me with people that I respected. People don’t call you back, they don’t answer your emails, they don’t see you when they see you in public. It’s an exercise in being ‘disappeared’.

"I think that’s over now. I think I can look people in the eyes again."

Hughes filed her lawsuit June 16, 2009 claiming the defendants made untrue and defamatory accusations that she was anti-Semitic in connection to a 2002 column she penned about the 9/11 attacks in New York.

As a result, former federal Liberal leader Stéphane Dion revoked her candidacy in the Kildonan-St. Paul riding in the 2008 federal election.

Slumberjack

Who needs inquisitors and witch trial judges anyway to deal with sin and evil, when folks like Peter Kent and Stephane Dion are available?

I'm sorry for what she went through, and sorry for the blacklist she is probably still facing, but my guess is she's probably more effective doing what she was doing before. And better to have all knives out in the open and find this out BEFORE she wound up in caucus.

better this than a jail in Mexico

She can't do what she did before, Smith.  She was a freelance journalist.  In her statement of claim, she said that because of this incident, she has not been able to work in her field since.

9/11 and the “CAN-AM Inquisition”

Michel Chossudovsky wrote:

The legitimacy of the inquisition is not questioned. The “Global War on Terrorism” justifies a mammoth defense budget at the expense of health, education, and virtually every single category of (civilian) public expenditure.

The “Global War on Terrorism” requires “going after” the terrorists, using advanced weapons systems. It upholds a preemptive religious-like crusade against evil, which serves to obscure the real objectives of military action.

The lies underlying 9/11 are known and documented. The American people’s acceptance of this crusade against evil is not based on any rational understanding or analysis of the facts.

The demonization of Muslims and crusades for oil and booty continue.

Can't the 9-11 conspiracy theory posts maybe go in one of the other countless 9-11 inside job threads?  This one is about Lesley Hughes and her defamation lawsuit.

Yes, I know, and I think it is a shitty deal.

What I mean is that her talents are as a writer, not a seat-warmer in a caucus, especially one that would sell her out so quickly as that. They might stop you from earning a living at the craft, but they can't stop you from doing it.

Glad to hear this news.

It's disturbing to see what a chill can be effected on one's career and personal prospects from publicizing any alternative view of 9/11.

Fidel

I don't think anybody expects the Liberal inquisition. 'cymbal smash'

That's an inaccurate representation of what happened. She was accused of publicizing a Jewish conspiracy theory. That's bad, if it reflected her view, which of course it didn't. No one cared about the 9/11 aspect.

Stopping someone from earning a living writing is the same thing as stopping her from writing, unless she is independently wealthy.

There is no reason to compare how she was defamed and persecuted to worse conditions in a jail in Mexico or anywhere. (Why not Gaza, for that matter?)

Kent is a pig. He's not an ignorant pig like many in that caucus, but that only makes him more guilty.

Thanks, Michelle. I would add one thread - the earliest one - which reported on the triggering events and how different people and organizations responded:

That's right, because we all know that they were 19 pious, middle class Muslims who tricked the world's most expansive army intelligence apparatus and NORAD on 9/11, which is totally different than smearing Jewish people.

We defend the interests of Muslims everywhere by assuming the Gladio Gang are correct about the socialist-Muslim wing of "Al Qaeda" orchestrating 9/11. No legitimate trials? No problem because they are GUILTY as charged!!

The American inquisition really does have people in low places not just the Liberal Party duh Canada.

Okay...

I think in my first comment I acknowledged that she still faces a blacklist. Also, I am from Winnipeg. I have heard Lesley Hughes on the radio (as a CBC host) and read her writing for years and I know what she does for a living, and I can guess how this might be playing out there given the insular and isolated nature of the place.

Never mind that my intent was to point out the Liberals weren't worthy of her - that good writers and journalists are probably better writing than sitting muzzled in caucus - there's also decent list of writers who did some very fine work in jail, or who never made a penny from it.

Yes, I am concerned about her ability to make a living, but that was not the point I was making.

Cynthia Vanier had a different outcome as far as conspiracies go

She seems to have kept on doing a fair bit of writing for the Winnipeg Free Press, though all I see are book reviews. And I don't know whether she ever resumed any work for the CBC, where she was a long-time news host. I can well imagine that this defamation cost her dearly, despite the fact that the local community (including many prominent members of the Jewish community) defended her from the start.

The terms of settlement of the lawsuit were confidential. I just hope there was a large pile of cash in there. Can't see what else would have needed to be shielded from public view!

Fidel

Without mincing words she was blackballed for pointing a finger of blame back at NATO terrorists themselves.

The inquisition considers it treason to question the veracity of their dubious claims and egregious errors of fact concerning the actual events of 9/11.

That's hard to believe considering the facts. As you yourself pointed out, she was publicly supported by the Winnipeg Jewish community, along with several media associates. As you also point out, it's very hard to see how in any way her comments can be construed as belonging to a jewish conspiracy theory of 9/11, since both facts she relayed in the original offending article were corroborated by other, includng Israeli, news sources.

So it's just coincidence that she received the same professional freeze-chill that others who point out problems with the official 9/11 narrative so often do? Okay, then.

Catchfire Catchfire's picture

This thread is not about a 9/11 conspiracy. Please keep that drift out of this thread.

ETA. Any more posts about a 9/11 conspiracy will be removed.

Mable Elmore, Libby Davies, Lesley Hughes - many others - try to discover what the common element was in their public persecution and humiliation. Lesley Hughes stood her ground and won. Let's hope others will follow her example.

I have known Lesley for 20 years. There isn't a trace of racism in her blood. Her only intolerance is intolerance of injustice and violation of personal dignity.

No one in Canada should have to pay such a high price for standing up for justice. Her courage to stand up to political and special interest bullying has inspired many and for that we should thank her. Unfortunately, many Canadians shrivel away under such pressures and never receive justice.
