Conservatives exploit Boston bombing to fast track 'anti-terror' legislation

CBC.ca reports:

...the Chamber will devote the day to discussing the aforementioned S-7, which would restore certain provisions related to investigative hearings, security certificates and other procedural issues, as well as make 'technical amendments' related to future parliamentary review of the law, which would allow for either the extension, or, alternately, sunsetting of those measures.

Given the government's reported desire to turn the two days now allocated for report and third reading consideration of the bill into a discussion of Trudeau's comments on looking for the 'root causes' of terrorism following the Boston Marathon bombings, it's worth pointing out that the Liberals have actually supported the bill, with the caucus -- including Trudeau -- voting with the government in support thereof at second reading last fall, and backing the Conservatives at committee.

This timing is shameless exploitation of the tragedy in Boston.

They'll eventually have us bent over in our skivvies touching our ankles as a prerequisite to heading out for work in the morning.

Did you expect anything different?

What a coincidence. The timing would be funny if we were not talking about the erosion of the right to dissent.  This is preparation for the war against environmentalist and FN's opposed to pipelines.

Al Qaeda in Iran is a good one too. They must have thrown that one in as a sugar plum to their Israeli friends that may even be helping them with this little side-show in any case..

I think that all of us who care about civil liberties should note that the Conservative and Liberal Parties are supporting this bill, including Irwin Cotler, the former human rights advocate, while the NDP is opposing it. The choice couldn't be clearer.

Agreed. Side note love your choice of nick name!

Michael Moriarity

It isn't a nick name, it is my real name. Sorry to disappoint you.
