Initial information mentioned the explosive device was detonated by a ‘non-lethal’ remote control provided by citizens of the United States as part of the $365 million plus $135 million cut from US citizens’ welfare and paid to Al-Qaeda directly in Syria.

8 killed, 16 injured in this explosion per initial reports and the number is expected to rise, Dr. Halaqi checked at a hospital for minor injuries and was discharged, he continued his daily work as usual. Note the school girls crossing by in the above video.

Syria’s infrastructure is systematically targeted as well in an obvious plot to destroy another sovereign secular state and replace it with fanatic ‘anti-Islamic’ Islamist enclaves.

Another case for our right wing fundamentalists supporting other right wing fundamentalist extremists, again, except this time they are in Syria and marauding in over the borders from other Gladio-Qaeda friendly nations supportive of NATO-backed terrorism.

Rikardo: Could it be that Syria is a FAILURE for the Humanitarian Interventionists, the R2P proponents?  Was Libya their last TRIUMPH ?

Absolutely its a failure.

The casualty numbers in Libya (with R2P intervention) are generally agreed to have been between 15,000 - 20,000 deaths.

The numbers in Syria (without R2P intervention) are c. 70,000 dead ,- increasing daily with no end in sight.

So absolutely, there has been a failure of the international community. That's obvious and disturbing. And nobody has paid a higher price for this failure than Syrian civilians.

Equally disturbing is the bizarre, gleeful delight of some Babblers of a "free-market" approach to international and civil conflict and the ever-climbing casualty count.

kropotkin1951

Sherpa-Finn for someone who supposedly promotes R2P as an option you don't seem to understand it very well. As you know I don't agree with the idea but if you are going to promote regime change then don't hide behind a doctrine that does not even fit the Syrian situation. The Syrian government has not committed genocide against its people.  If did kill protestors, which they dispute, the numbers were never very high and the incidents were sporadic run of the mill totalitarianism not an orchestrated murder campaign like in Rwanda. The government has been offering to negotiate a peaceful route to elections for over a year and they have been told by the Western backed terrorists that regime change is a precondition.

You are arguing for imperial intervention to install a government favourable to the US and its NATO allies not for the protection of Syrians. The flawed concept of R2P doesn't have any relevance because the minimum conditions for invoking it have not come close to being met.

[quote]

According to the International Commission for Intervention and State Sovereignty (ICISS) Report in 2001 (which was not adopted by national governments), any form of a military intervention initiated under the premise of responsibility to protect must fulfill the following six criteria in order to be justified as an extraordinary measure of intervention:

  1. Just Cause - Is the threat a "serious and irreparable harm occurring to human beings"?[16]
  2. Right Intention - Is the main intention of the military action to prevent human suffering or are there other motives?[17]
  3. Final Resort - Has every other measure besides military invention been taken into account? (This does not mean that every measurement has to be applied and failed, but that there are reasonable grounds to believe that only military action would work in that situation)[17]
  4. Legitimate Authority
  5. Proportional Means - Are the minimum necessary military means applied to secure human protection?[17]
  6. Reasonable Prospect - Is it likely that military action will succeed in protecting human life, and are the consequences of this action sure not to be worse than no action at all?[17]

Noticed people Assad sympathizers on Twitter have nothing better to do than slander the opposition by claiming an alliance with Israel.

From the National Coalition of Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces:

Quote:

The Syrian Coalition condemns the Israeli attacks on the Syrian Center for Scientific Research in Jamaraya near Damascus. The Coalition holds the Assad regime fully responsible for weakening the Syrian Army by exhausting its forces in a losing battle against the Syrian people; who are the reason for its existence.

It is clear that the regime, which claims to be an opposing force, is instead weakening Syria in the face of an enemy. Until this point, the regime has worked at maintaining the best interests of the Assad family and the Assad rule. This has lead to wasted human capacity, a declining economy and weakened national foundations, which are gradually bringing the nation closer to total collapse.

To undermine Iran, which is predominantly Shiite, the Bush Administration has decided, in effect, to reconfigure its priorities in the Middle East. In Lebanon, the Administration has cooperated with Saudi Arabia’s government, which is Sunni, in clandestine operations that are intended to weaken Hezbollah, the Shiite organization that is backed by Iran. The U.S. has also taken part in clandestine operations aimed at Iran and its ally Syria. A by-product of these activities has been the bolstering of Sunni extremist groups that espouse a militant vision of Islam and are hostile to America and sympathetic to Al Qaeda.  ... Quote:
The US says al-Qaeda poses such an extraordinary threat that the Constitution must be suspended, the Bill of Rights set aside, and the President given emergency powers to kill or kidnap anyone on earth without due process of law. This is a very odd claim, since there is no evidence that al-Qaeda poses any real danger to Americans. Even if 9/11 were an actual al-Qaeda attack, and the 19 utterly incompetent pseudo-Muslim playboys blamed for it somehow beat billion-to-one odds and actually pulled it off, terrorism of all kinds would still not pose any statistically significant threat to Americans, who would be more likely to die from lightning strikes and bathtub drownings.

Israel's 'Act of War' Against Syria - Madness or Cold Calculation?  -  by F William Engdahl

http://rt.com/op-edge/israels-syria-madness-cold-calculation-943/

"Israel's bombing of Syria is a sign Tel Aviv and Washington are preparing international opinion, and gearing up for a full-scale Libya-style NATO-IDF air campaign to obliterate Syria. Is anyone for the rule of international law, notions of just and unjust wars, classical diplomacy and basic human rights for a change?"

Wow, the left can be pretty embarassing these days.

I don't know which Syrians  will have an opportunity to, "rule themselves",  but "peace"  now has very little meaning in in that carnal house of 70000+ dead and millions displaced.  The fact that many Syrians support Assad staying in power is the only reason he is still around (for the moment) so don't talk stupid about "the Syrians" as if they were of one voice like your precious "Jesus Christ Brigade".

I'm defending the right of Syrians to resist a 40+ year old dictatorship. Are there Islamist forces involved? Absolutely, but it is far more complex than that. Secular and democratic Syrians have to do their part to make sure the revolution is completed. Go ahead and believe the New York Times when it says that only Jihadis are the Syrian rebels fighting Assad's government. Just like they said that Saddam had WMDs.

Defending freedom and self-determination is clearly what you are not doing.

Your arrogant demand that:
"Secular and democratic Syrians have to do their part to make sure the revolution is completed", has no correlatives in reality or the recent history of Western-sponsored regime changes in the middle-east--or their subsequent bloody sectarian chaos.

Your approving quote of the alleged "Jesus Christ Brigade" rallying cry that Assad hates all religion, mocks your lip service to secularism and your grasp on reality.

As for your laughably perverse suggestion that the New York Times in general is supporting Assad, somehow like Iraq and WMD--well, the real connection is rather more boringly predictable:

History Repeats? 'NYT' Boosts, But McClatchy Questions, Claims of Syria's Use of Chemicals
Greg Mitchell on May 8, 2013 - 12:03 PM ET

Is history repeating itself?  As I noted earlier this week here, The New York Times, as it did in the run-up to the 2003 Iraq invasion, seems to be promoting (if a little less strenuously) some kind of dramatic U.S. intervention in Syria, based on WMDs.   Once again we’ve seen overheated front-page news stories, based on slim evidence, and columns by Thomas Friedman, Bill Keller and others.  And, again as in 2003, the newspaper’s editorials express caution....

I said Secular and Democratic. One can be democratic and religious, wishing to avoid sectarian violence so there is no contradiction there. Secondly the NYT need not support Assad but I wouldn't be surprised if it's being fed questionable info  so that the US can slowly avoid getting sucked into the conflict. All the anti-imperialists were running around absolutely convinced it was just a matter of time before NATO had a no fly zone or even boots on the ground. Obama and the rest of the West are clearly now backpedaling.

It's quite clear that the US is now happy to see both sides kill each other and leave Israel to eliminate any weapons depot that make them nervous. Yes it's a mess. There are outside forces involved but that doesn't mean there's not a revolution going on inside of Syria. God forbid people actually do some serious analysis on the situation while the other half of the left cheers on a regime that has cut deals with Western imperialism before and carried out painful neoliberal reforms which caused suffering among the Syrian working classes:

True, one can be democratic and religious, and not  foreign-funded murderous theocrats,  but that fantasy ship has sailed:
