..this action took place last sunday but well worth reporting. the numbers are astounding.

Millions take to the streets in Egypt’s biggest protest ever

Military source claims that as many as 14 million could have mobilized across the country, which would constitute the largest protest in world history.

Egypt once more defied all expectations on Sunday, when Tahrir Square was re-occupied and millions took to the streets across the crisis-ridden country in an attempt to push President Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood from power and resume the revolutionary process that was kick-started with the spontaneous popular uprising that toppled Mubarak in January and February 2011. While the protests remained mostly peaceful, the health ministry has reported that at least 16 people have died and 781 have been injured in inter-factional clashes since Sunday....

Saudi Arabia and UAE to Lend Egypt Up to $8 Billion

http://rt.com/news/uae-saudi-egypt-loan-849/

"...Multi-billion dollar aid from Saudi Arabia and the UAE is another sign that these two countries had a hand in the military coup which took place in Egypt, believes RT's contributing analyst in London, Afshin Rattansi

'We now realize it is much more a Saudi-backed military coup. And as for this General al-Sisi person, who is a former military attache for Saudi Arabia, he is Saudi's man. Saudi Arabia, they've taken over the largest country in the world, Rattansi said."

Muslim Brotherhood Leaders Arrest Ordered for 'Inciting Violence'

"On Tuesday, Egypt's military-backed interim President Adly Mansour appointed the economist Hazem el-Beblawi as prime minister if a bid to facilitate a speedy transition to civilian rule.

The internationally recognized opposition leader, Mohamed El Baradei, was also appointed vice president.

However, Mohamed Soudane, the Muslim Brotherhood's political branch spokesman, said the movement had no intention of joining the new Egyptian government.

'We have opposed from the beginning what is happening in Egypt, how could we participate in the transitional government? It would be participating in a crime,' Soudane told France 24.

Referencing the uprising that toppled former president Hosni Mubarak, he continued, 'the situation in Egypt is now worse than that which prevailed before the revolution of 25 January, 2011..."

since the military ousted President Mohamed Morsi, life has somehow gotten better for many people across Egypt: Gas lines have disappeared, power cuts have stopped and the police have returned to the street. The apparently miraculous end to the crippling energy shortages, and the re-emergence of the police, seems to show that the legions of personnel left in place after former President Hosni Mubarak was ousted in 2011 played a significant role — intentionally or not — in undermining the overall quality of life under the Islamist administration of Mr. Morsi.

From Egypt to Syria: Is the Gulf Cooperationj Council the Tail that Wags the US Dog?  -  by Ajamu Baraka

"It is possible that the coup in Egypt was not a US initiated affair but, rather, a sign of declining US influence in the region. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, who hated desposed Egptian President Morsi, may have promised Egypt's generals they would replace US military aid if necessary. Perhaps we can no longer just refer to these states as merely client states of the US..."

But some leaders behind these landmark protests say they were in regular contact with the Army, via intermediaries, as they planned the demonstrations—and that it was clear their movement had the Army’s support. In the days and weeks before the protests, Waleed al-Masry, a central organizer, was in regular contact with a group of retired military officers. These retired officers, Masry says, promised to protect the protesters who turned out on June 30. They said they were reaching out on behalf of the Army’s current commanders. “We didn’t ask them for help. They just offered it,” Masry says. “And we welcomed that.”

Why the Egyptian revolution is far from dead

The revolution lives. Even if we face a serious threat of its co-optation, popular rule is clearly moving out of the institutions and into the streets.

Is the Egyptian revolution dead? The short answer is “No.” A longer answer follows. What happened in Egypt between June 30 and July 3 was not a coup against an elected government. It was another attempt by the generals to co-opt Egypt’s January 25 Revolution. The situation’s complexity and its globally and ideologically charged nature make it hard to see the forest for the trees. Here is my view on why the revolution is far from over....

..one position coming forth out of egypt and seen on democracy now, claimed that the military..the generals own 1/3 of the economy. they can't make any money when 14 ok say even 13 million people go into the streets. all this upheval stuff is bad for buisness. there are to many to kill out right so they must find some kind of path to get back to the way things used to be. bravo to the peoples of egypt who show us a path to meaningful change.

"...The essence of revolution is that the overwhelming majority of people directly intervene into politics in a way that fundamentally changes existing politics. This is opposed to a 'normal' democracy, where average people mark a ballot every four or so years - if they vote at all. [Canada]

In non-revolutionary times people are passive and disengaged from the political process, focusing on themselves and their families - they don't view themselves as agents of change, but victims of larger more powerful forces.

A revolution creates the exact opposite dynamic..." [Egypt]
