"...The Israeli Embassy got its first-ever defence attache under Ms Ziv's watch, nearly two years ago. Brigadier General (Res.) Eden Attias started his posting in Ottawa in December 2011. Prior to that, Israel's defence attache in Washington covered both the United Staes and Canada. She said she [Israeli Ambassador Ziv] thought Israel should have a defence attache in Canada because the officer would be able to engage consistently with colleagues in the country.

It would also help expose Canada to the potential of procuring equipment and products from Israel. 'Canada and Israel are...countries that are of the same thinking when it has to do with defence, or threats in the world altogether,' Ms Ziv said. Both countries have taken a hard line on Iran. Prime Minister Harper has said he recognizes and supports Israel's right to defend itself against terrorist attacks.
