The One-State Solution was the position of the Palestinians/Arabs 65 years ago. In the one state Jews would be a minority. The basic idea of Zionism is to have one (only) state where Jews (not Christians or Muslims, as in so many states) are a majority (as we Christians are in Canada). I doubt if many Jewish Israelis want a state where they will be in a minority with a Muslim majority.
It was much easier for the Euro-South Africans to accept democratic power sharing and a minority status with the largely majority native (Zulu, Xhosa, etc) majority, especially as Mandela was no longer a Communist and De Klerk was a pragmatic statesman.
I hope the UN General Assembly who endorsed the two states: Israel and Palestine in 1947 will finally accept Palestine as a full member.
