Spring is here -- official announcement

To all and sundry,

by virtue of the Powers entrusted in me by Her Majesty the Queen and Her representative  in the Dominion, the Governor General, and pursuant to Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution Act 1982, and the recent forecasts of Environment Canada,

When you say, "spring is here" - could you please be a little more specific?

ETA: Ah, we cross-posted - thanks for the Winnipeg exception. I won't ask you to list all the others, given that you probably have other things to do this week.

but EVEN Winnipeg in the positive Cs starting Thursday, they say;

looking back: yes, March was very bad almost everywhere:

With the exception of south coast of British Columbia (lucky you Arda and Caaleb!), every major city/capital east of the Rocky Mountains were below seasonal for the month of March.

Doesn't matter. Seems no-one is allowed to deal with your frozen pipes.

It was beautiful and warm yesterday; one could smell the earth. Turned cloudy as the afternoon went by. Rain today, which is a good thing as it will get rid of a lot of dirty snow and ice, and some of the filth in the streets. Hope the street cleaning machines come out soon. The bicycle lanes on rue Boyer aren't open yet; I tried to take it again yesterday and there are still cars parked in the lane, though the lanes have supposedly been officially opened for a week now. I know the drivers had a grace period, but that was one week, and the week has passed.

Rubbish. What does Environment Canada know?

I'll take the evidence of the spring peepers in my backyard.

Last year they started singing March 23, the year before, on March 18.

No sign of them yet.

Here's what to listen for:

Mr. Magoo

I haven't seen a robin yet, but I did see a UPS guy in his brown shorty-shorts yesterday.

one more time, by the Powers invested in me by Her Majesty, henceforth and forsooth,

I officially declare it SPRING (at least in Montreal):

The snow was gone, then it came back, now everything is soggy again.  Happy spring!

Mr. Magoo

Our local forecast is calling for +8 C and snow tomorrow.

Was that covered in that one physics class I missed??  Will it be lukewarm snow?

Snow turning to slushing (had that here today when I went to get my lunch) turning to rain?

In 2012, it was at least 20° for the "family-friendly" red squares demo for all ages on the 20th of March... I'd been on my bicycle all month, and even in February.

The UPS thing was cute. Although it was from the US, at least they started with NH and MN, where there is serious winter.

Spring arrived late, and a taste of summer arrived early, at least here in Montréal and nearby. Now the maple tree in front of my home office window is in leaf; it is so nice to see this green.

Today we have a "corvée" at the co-op. Last weekend neighbours cleaned the alley; just hope it will stay that way. So digging up weeds, taking some of our junk to the éco-centre (a glorified dump, where at least some things are recycled as we put them in specific places for building materials, old clothes, dishes and cookware etc. ). Hoping my arthritis doesn't act up; I was utterly fine yesterday and got in a good bicycle ride, but it is more humid today. Should rain a bit tomorrow, but I'll be at the Réseau écosocialiste meeting...

Renzo is really enjoying going down the staircase ... slowly ... to the back garden. He doesn't really go any farther, at the venerable age of 19.
