I'm with Gord Perks on this one: it's not our business whether he's in rehab. Also, the more people poke around, the more it fuels that whole family's martyr complex.

True I do agree, but Ford is such a compulsive liar you can't beleive anything that he says. I agree with the above comments that it is HIGHLY unusual for someone in rehab to be able to make a phone call. From everything I know about these rehab places, communication is cut-off for 30 days. In fact you are not allowed to contact family members.

He just called the Toronto Sun to give an interview and said he is doing constituency work while at rehab! saying "I am making calls to constituents” He claims it is a 'working' rehab. I'm sorry no rehab allows these many phone calls. He is probably in a weight-loss spa.

As someone who has worked in addictions for a while, I don't think it matters whether he's in rehab or not. For one, rehab will not treat him for his racism, sexism, homophobia, lying and bullying. So far, it looks like he and his family are using his substance abuse problems as a cover for all his bad behaviour.

Rehab is just a tiny portion of what people need to do to recover from addictions. If he's lying about it, that's just one more lie in a long list.

I agree with Sineed. Leave Ford alone right now.

I agree with Terrytowell (did I really write that?).

I fully expect that in 27 days Ford will step out into the sunshine, proclaim himself cured  and resume his re-election campaign.

The factors discussed above, including Ford's repeated lies on just about every subject, certainly raise a doubt as to whether he is in fact in rehab.

To coin a phrase, lie to me once, shame on you. Lie to me 786 times, shame on me.

In these circumstances I think it is right to expect some confirmation that he is in fact in treatment beyond the word of Ford or his brother. We don't need to know where he is, just that he is in fact in rehab. A letter to the City Clerk or the acting mayor would suffice. They could confirm this without revealing his whereabouts.

Sineed, you seem to know something about treatment centres. What can you tell us about telephone access by in-patients?

Rob Ford just gave another interview saying he got into hot water with the rehab center for giving interviews. If that is the case, then why is he giving yet another interview!

I agree that confirmation of rehab is necessary, though not location. It's important for the public to know whether the Fords are lying again, attempting to bamboozle the public into sympathy votes for the 'rehab'd' Rob.

Maybe he'll get the boot from rehab. Rob's enthusiasm for rehab does sound like the initial euphoria experienced by many ... before the hard work really starts. Time will tell.

This is thread drift, however, the evidence shows that typical "rehab" techniques are very ineffective at curing addiction in any event. So, even if Rob Ford is doing what he should, chances are that it won't change his behaviour permanently anyway. Excerpt from the link:

Peer-reviewed studies peg the success rate of AA somewhere between 5 and 10 percent. That is, about one of every fifteen people who enter these programs is able to become and stay sober. In 2006, one of the most prestigious scientific research organizations in the world, the Cochrane Collaboration, conducted a review of the many studies conducted between 1966 and 2005 and reached a stunning conclusion: “No experimental studies unequivocally demonstrated the effectiveness of AA” in treating alcoholism. This group reached the same conclusion about professional AA-oriented treatment (12-step facilitation therapy, or TSF), which is the core of virtually every alcoholism-rehabilitation program in the country.

There's a new Rob Ford video (see url) showing him in a bar uttering profanities.

Quote:

Meanwhile, a new video, said to be shot in a bar on Weston Rd. on April 27, has been given to the Sun for no fee showing Mayor Ford yelling profanities which include “no one better f--- with me. I’m going to kick you in the f---ing head.” ...

Councillor Doug Ford told the Toronto Sun Thursday night that allegations the mayor has been out of the supervision of professionals or has been seen in cars or coffee shops are completely false, maintaining he has not once been in public since he went into rehab last week.

“We’ll put out something (Friday) that will prove that,” he said. “Since the day he went in, he has never been out in public.”

Doctor confirms to CBC news that Rob Ford is in rehab.  link

It's interesting that the CBC was chosen by the Fords for the release of this infomation.  When asked why the CBC was chosen, Doug Ford says,

Doug Ford wrote:
Well first of all I respect the CBC. I believe they are one of the most credible organizations in Canada in the media, in my opinion. And that it will stop the speculation, for example, a 15-year-old young lady spotted Rob Ford at the Tim Horton's. Another person spotted him in Hamilton. Spotted him in Calgary. Spotted him everywhere. Just to stop the speculation to let the people of Toronto know that Rob is taking this seriously, is getting treatment and that he wants to continue coming back and serving the people.

The Toronto Star is reporting that Rob Ford is at the GreenStone, an addictions treatment centre, as well as the Ford family cottage is located in Muskoka.

Rob Ford just got appointed to Hockey's Hall of Fame Board of Directors

So how long before he makes another embarrassing headline and gets kicked off the board? A year? Six months? Should we start a pool?

cco

If this one wasn't bad enough to stop his appointment, I'm not sure what would be sufficient to get him kicked off. (Surprised nobody linked it.) Oh sure, it's entirely possible the attempted homicide of the brother of the guy Lisi was extorting over the crack video was just coincidental to Ford being near the crime scene, but it didn't raise a single eyebrow on council?

AHHH!  Keep forgetting.

Speaking of links, one appears to be missing

Mr. Magoo

Unsurprisingly, Doug Ford is unimpressed.

Quote:
"All it does is hurt Rob's family, hurts Rob's kids," Doug Ford told CBC News.

"We find it disgusting as a family."

Well, if someone unearthed a video of Rob Ford drunkenly punching a swan, and released it for lulz, I could agree somewhat.

But the mere existence of this video was denied so consistently and for so long that I think there's a genuine public interest in demonstrating that it really did exist all along, and was basically what it had been claimed to be.

Geoff

THe video is necessary as an antidote to the right's attempt to make Ford a sympathetic character since his death. I feel sorry for his family, as I would for anyone. However, Rob Ford's views and actions were repugnant, and we must be vigilent against "Fordism" wherever it comes from.
