The CBC is reporting that Jewish Defence League is planning on setting up operations in Calgary. No mention is made in the article of the JDL being illegal in most countries [notably, in this case, the United States] having been identified as a terrorist organization.

Strangely enough, there is also no mention of the history of JDL(Canada) supporting ultra-right wingers and racists from other groups -- even when those individuals have a very clear history of anti-semitism - as long as their anti-Muslim/anti-Arab views are at the fore, the JDL seems willing to give these racists a pass.
It should be interesting watching the JDL settle in amongst the Aryan Guard and other neo-nazis -- especially given that the Alberta expression of this disease is closer to its traditional anti-semitic roots, or at least less media savvy, then similar groups elsewhere in the country. I am sure Keegstra is proud of his legacy.

Actually, the legacy goes back a bit farther, to Aberhart and his Social Credit propaganda committees. And that's not even getting into the more mainstream, "country club" style of antisemitism, which was imported into Alberta from, well, pretty much everywhere.
But speaking of Keegstra and the Aryan Nations etc, as I mentioned on En Masse, I do recall JDL members making trips into Alberta in the mid-80s, to scope things out in the wake of all those news reports. They were met with somewhat muted curiousity, and some graffiti telling them to get lost.

The Canadian JDL has voice its support for the English Defense League, but I'm not sure how anti-Jewish the EDL is. My guess would be that the JDL would not ally with any group openly calling itself Nazi, since that label pretty much commits you to being against Jews.

The JDL make death threats against Jews who support Palestinian rights. Isn't that "antisemitism"? It is certainly threats of violence. More than one friend in the UJFP has received such threats (either from the LDJ or Betar, a similar thuggish group). I have also seen signs proposing to kill Arabs in the traditional Jewish quarter in the Marais.
The comments after the CTV story are hilarious. One guy compares the first PQ election to Nazi violence and pogroms in Romania.
Rabbi Poupko is full of shit himself. I've attended several of the demos here and haven't heard anyone "supporting Hamas". Everyone is condemning the massacres, and also calling for an end to the occupation. It isn't up to us whom the Gazans choose to elect. Of course I'd prefer the PFLP, but they have been pretty much sidelined. And it is hard for anything else to emerge in the desperate situation where Gazans find themselves.
By the way, I checked out the PFLP website, and it comes as no surprise that, deep as their social and political differences with Hamas may be, they wholeheartedly support the Gazan resistance.
The JDL is expanding because the conditions are right for it to do so. These must be changed. The PFLP position on Gaza is essential.
