Yep, because every soldier that was in Afghanistan has PTSD.

quizzical

wow, the RCMP heavy swat out of kamloops must be getting a work out. just a couple of weeks back they were here manhunting a guy, and his daughter, down the lake for taking a shot at the rcmp trying to exercise a bench warrant when he failed to make a court appearance.

he's dead, daughter in hospital still recovering.

Peter DeGroot from Slocan is dead as well.

Disappointing to see this end this way.

I'm trying to understand why this story merits a thread here. Maybe this:

Quote:
So a young black man gets shot while unarmed and he was " a thug who deserved it" but a white man who shoots at police gets a memorial page and sympathy. The double standards...

I agree.

Heard one of the neighbours say he needed psychological help. Too bad he didn't get it in time.

Unionist, instead of complaining why don't you start a memorial page for the victim?

I don't think anyone in this thread hasn't said anything about denying a victim his or her memorial page.

If you see a problem correct it, don't wait for people to start stuff you're more than capable of producing.

I've heard from a few sources that Peter Degroot was never in the military but rather a survivalist.

On a side note I think we should work towards not automatically associating PTSD with "Canadian Forces soldier who's been to Afghanistan". I find it almost marginalizes people with PTSD who aren't military.

I find the whole situation sad. It seems that it started with complaints about his animals and yet I heard he was very much invested/loved his animals. Very tragic ending.

My concern is with police strategy in hunting this man down: heavy, intensive presence involving several detachments, a helicopter, etc. Obviously, I wasn't there and it's easy to second-guess the situation. But . . . was this fellow a threat to the public? Did he have a hostage? Why not use a strategy of containment and negotiation? How many other incidents like this can you think of where a macho, heavy-handed approach resulted in a needless fatality?

On the flip side, how many other situations are there when the suspect is contained and the police are able to talk him or her into surrendering peacefully after a few hours?

Unfortunate that it ended this way.

I have notice little has been released in the news about this incident. I wonder why it has disappeared so fast?
