Vision council and school trustess mostly leading, parks board is going NPA and Green.

In North Vancouver (City) NDP mayor Darrell Mussatto  (that has got to be the most double letters in any name) fairly narrowly reelected mayor.  NDP Party President Craig Keating and city councillor tops the polls.  Turnout increases from 21% in 2011 to 30%.

Council looks like it will be 6 Vision 3 NPA and 1 Green (Carr)

NorthReport

Looks like a good nite so far for the NDP in BC.

Adam T

The polls predicted Tony Tang would lose his council seat and that seems accurate.

ghoris

Wish we could easily tell what polls are reporting so far. If it's mostly West Side polls, VV is in good shape. If not, could be a long night.

Carr topping the Council poll as expected, followed closely by the two NPA incumbents. So far most Vision incumbents hanging on but there are about 5 NPA candidates that are about 1,000 votes behind the Vision pack.

Looks like Park Board will be split (so far 3 NPA, 2 VV, 2 Green) and Vision will keep control of School Board.

ghoris

Yep, Tang is way back in 16th. There are 5 NPA councillors who are all sitting at about 10,000-10,500 votes, with the bottom 3 Vision candidates (Reimer, Stevenson, Meggs) sitting at about 11,000-12,000. Still possible for them to be overtaken.

Former NDP turned independent MLA Bob Simpson elected mayor in a landslide in Quesnel.

Vancouver council: Carr (G), Affleck (NPA), Ball (NPA), De Genova (NPA), Jang (VV), Deal (VV), Louie (VV), Reimer (VV), Stevenson (VV), Meggs (VV)

But hot on their heels are Robertson (NPA), Baker (NPA), Scott (NPA), Low (NPA) and McDowell (NPA) who are less than 1000 votes back of Meggs.

Park Board: 4 NPA, 2 Green, 1 Vision

Maybe that's what they like in Surrey.

CBC says Lisa Helps is the new Mayor of Victoria, defeating NDP-affiliated incumbent Dean Fortin.

NorthReport

Vision's Meggs who has last seat on council leads by 1,198 over next closest

ghoris

Slightly less than half of the polls are in and it's still pretty close, although Robertson has about a 5,000-vote lead. Again, depends on which areas are reporting so far.

NorthReport

Robertson continues to increase lead now by 7,194

ghoris

Now 70/129: Robertson 41,645, LaPoint 34,451. I think it's over.

Council numbers seem to be consistent. Carr won on the last poll last time, though, so there could be a few shifts at the bottom.

Park Board: 3 VV, 2 NPA, 2 Green

School Board: 5 VV, 2 NPA, 1 Green

NorthReport

Vision takes lead on Parks Board now with 3, Greens and NPA 2 each

PrairieDemocrat15

What is the ideological orientation and/or political affiliation of the new mayor of Victoria, Lisa Helps?

Adam T

Helps, who campaigned heavily on the issues of homelessness and affordable housing, was helped by voter frustration over delays to the Johnson Street bridge and approving a new sewage system.

NorthReport

Everyone knows that Gregor was formerly an NDP MLA of course.

Good nite for Vision Vancouver once again.

It is understandable that they may not end up controlling Parks Board as Vision made some big mistakes in that area.

I just wish we had a ward system in Vancouved.

Indeed a good night for Vision. In addition to the mayoralty, it looks like they elected 6/8 Council candidates and 6/7 School Board candidates. They did not do so hot on Park Board with only 3/6 elected.

I personally prefer the at-large system, although I recognize it is the lesser of two evils.

COPE shellacked once again, except it's a complete shutout this year.

Meena Wong is scoring a respectable 10% of the vote in the mayor race, but their best council result is Lisa Barrett in 20th, behind all Vision, NPA and Green candidates. So far she has 27,000 votes, less than half of first-place candidate Adriane Carr (who has 56,000).

Their best Park Board result is Anita Romaniuk in 15th place, again behind all Vision, NPA and Green candidates.  Their best School Board result is Diana Day in 16th place, also behind all Vision, NPA and Green candidates and former COPE trustee Jane Bouey.

The moderates who split off from COPE did not do much better. Bouey is back in 15th for School Board and RJ Aquino is in 22nd place.

I believe every labour backed candidate won. Like I said above, councillor Jamie McEvoy is a former YND executive.  But, then again so is the federal Liberal candidate in West Vancouver.

Adam T

Meggs council lead is down to 700 votes and the NPA is now leading in 4 of 7 parks board seats.

ghoris

2 polls left to report. Meggs hanging on to the 10th council seat by about 700 votes. Only one change - De Genova (NPA) replaces Tang (Vision)

NPA will control Parks Board winning 4 seats vs. 2 for Greens and only 1 Vision. Vision incumbent Trevor Loke is out.

Not clear who will control School Board. Right now it's 5 Vision, 3 NPA and 1 Green, but Ken Clement of Vision is only 16 votes ahead of Christopher Richardson of the NPA so it could be a 4-4 split.

NorthReport

Mayor (1/1) - Robertson

Council (6/10) - Deal, Reimer, Jang, Louie, Stevenson & Meggs

Parks Board (3/7) - Evans, Granby, Loke (Vision Parks Board Chair Aron Jasper did not run which may have hurt Vision's chances here. Also Vision got the most and the NPA and the Greens only got 2 each)

School 6/9 - Bacchus, Alexander, Wong, Lombardi, Clement & Payne

NorthReport

Meggs is safe.

Adam T

Former NDP leadership candidate Nils Jensen easily reelected mayor in Oak Bay.

Nils Jensen 3640

Cairine Green Jennifer 2197

David Shebib Michael 102

ghoris

Only 1 poll left to report. Meggs up by 900 votes so he's safe in 10th spot.

Park Board is 4 NPA (Coupar, Crawford, Kirby-Yung, Shum), 2 Green (Mackinnon, Wiebe), 1 Vision (Evans)

School Board is 4 Vision (Bacchus, Alexander, Wong, Lombardi), 4 NPA (Ballantyne, Noble, Robertson, Richardson) and 1 Green (Fraser), but Richardson is only up by 17 votes over Ken Clement of Vision so that last poll will decide it.

Adam T

Im stunned John Turmel didnt run for something.  In every muncicipality.

ghoris

A bit surprised that despite a fairly convincing win for Robertson, other parties won the top 4 slots on council, Vision lost 4 seats on the Park Board and may lose control of School Board despite expectations they would elect all 6 candidates.

I wouldn't get too complacent with this win if I were Vision. I think it speaks to the fact that voters weren't enamoured of LaPointe rather than embracing Vision.

PrairieDemocrat15

PrairieDemocrat15

Is the BCA basically the civic arm of the BCNDP, or is it a left Liberal-moderate NDP coalition like Vison. Have they been any better than Vision on the issues the left-wing usually criticizes Robertson on?

ghoris

Good night for Greens, with Carr topping Council poll and gaining 2 seats on Park Board and a seat on School Board.

Good night for Vision, but not the utter triumph of 2011. Decent margin of victory for Robertson, 6/8 Council candidates elected, but shellacked at Park Board and may lose control of School Board.

Better night for the NPA than in 2011, gaining a Council seat and winning control of Park Board and possibly winning an additional School Board seat, but still disappointing overall.

Once again, total disaster for COPE. Despite a respectable showing by Meena Wong in the mayor race, down-ballot COPE candidates actually did worse this time than in 2011, when they only managed to elect a school trustee (Allan Wong, re-elected tonight on the Vision slate).
