Journalist who exposed ISIS has been killed (Oct 19)  in a suspicious car crash in Turkey. The US consulate has no interest in helping their national.

Quote:
[Serena Shim had been reporting that] IS militants had crossed the border from Turkey into Syria in trucks apparently affiliated with NGOs, some of which allegedly bore World Food Organization symbols. She claimed that she had received images from Islamic State militants crossing the Turkish border and was one of the few reporters focusing on the matter.

Q&A: German Journalist on Surviving ISIL

http://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/2014/12/qa-german-journalist-surviving-...

"German journalist Jurgen Todenhofer, 74, embedded with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and spent 10 days in Mosul in northern Iraq with its fighters.

As far as our meetings with the ISIL fighters were concerned, the discussions were very hard. I have read the Quran many times and I always asked them about the value of mercy in Islam. I didn't see any mercy in their behaviour. Something that I don't understand at all is the enthusiasm in their plan of religious cleansing, planning to kill the non-believers. They will also kill democrats because they believe that they put the laws of human beings above the commandments of God.

There were very difficult discussions, especially when they were talking about the number of people who they are ready to kill. They were talking about hundreds of millions. They were enthusiastic about it, and I just can't understand that.

I had three strong impressions of ISIL. The first one was that ISIL is much stronger than we think. They have conquered an area which is bigger than Great Britain. Every day hundreds of new enthusiastic fighters are arriving. There is incredible enthusiasm that I have never seen in war zones.

Secondly, the brutality of their religious cleansing is on another level. And thirdly, I think the strategy of the western countries is completely wrong. They are a terror-breeding programme. We had fewer terrorsts before 2001 and these bombardments...Western countries will not defeat ISIS. Only Arabs..."

Watched it as well, that was some horrific shit but I kind'a saw what they were doing. It appeared to me they were trying to mimic how their guys are dying from bombing attacks; getting burnt up, having buildings fall down on them and getting crushed under the rubble. That and they are just trying to scare the shit out of people.

yes Bec, but when 'our' bombs burn and crush people to death, it's always for good and noble ends. 'Democracy' or 'Freedom' or 'Responsibility To Protect' etc.  ISIS is the West's own Frankenstein monster...

I'm sure all they hope for is to return to the just and peaceful existence they were enjoying before The West started harrassing them for no reason.

Hanging prisoners belonging to an organization that makes readily use of suicide bombers doesn't strike me as an effective punishment or reponse.

Historically when soldiers were mistreated, abused tortured or murdered by their captors they tended to fight harder.  ISIS may find out countries like Jordan are quicker to set aside the Laws of Armed Conflict.

So the west starts moving out of their AOR and scaling back their foot print on the ground ISIS, wanting to get back to their peaceful roots, move in and start chopping off heads? Not westernerns (for the most part) but their own people...

Makes sense.

Mr. Magoo

If it's any consolation, they won't really be harming "their own" people... just apostates and infidels who had it coming.

alan,

If, and hopefully it never happens, that ISIL captures and executes a Canadian, Harper might end up getting that 250 seat majority that Paul Martin bless his loser's soul, never got.

I guess if some terrorists take credit for it, or if any kind of hate message or "warning message" is found, perhaps you can, alan.

Meanwhile, though, in case anyone's thinking alan is referring to another school shooting (like, with actual guns and victims and suchlike) it actually appears that someone took some potshots at the school windows with a pellet gun over the weekend.

"Jihad John" was radicalized by MI5, according to CAGE, a London-based independent advocacy organization.

Who is Mohammed Emwazi aka "Jihad John"? The story of Mohammed Emwazi

Mohammed Emwazi is 26 years old British citizen. He was born in Kuwait in 1988, but moved to the UK at the age of six with his family and has lived there since. Raised and educated in West London, he went on to complete a degree in 2009. He hoped that with this degree he could build a successful career in Arab countries, particularly as he was fluent in Arabic, English and a British citizen. After completing his studies Mohammed began making plans for settling down, for his future. As for most, this included marriage. Regarding this, he was speaking to a potential spouse and her family over the phone back in his home country, Kuwait and the only step that remained was for him to go there and formally conduct the marriage contract.

The group Cage released a set of case files, running to nearly 10,000 words, which showed that Emwazi had been subjected to repeated harassment from the UK intelligence services for years before he had joined ISIS. This was a major revelation, going far beyond what the Washington Post had uncovered. It showed that:

The MI5 agent then attempted to turn Emwazi into an informant. He told Emwazi that ‘this was an opportunity for him – not a lot of people got to meet MI5.’ Emwazi refused. In response, the agent replied: ‘You’re going to have a lot of trouble…you’re going to be known…you’re going to be followed…life will be harder for you".

Thereafter, the harassment continued and intensified which led to him losing two fiancée's, his job and new life in Kuwait. The harassment and abuse he suffered, was all without criminal charges ever being brought against him, with the legal remedies available to him failing, he attempted to start a new life abroad in Kuwait only to be blocked by the UK security agencies continually.

The CAGE press conference on Jihadi John / Emwazi Video

Why Britain won’t talk about crucial elements of Jihadi John’s story

Sky News duly began her interview with a CAGE spokesman by asking “What level of harassment by the security services here in the United Kingdom justifies beheadings?” – a plainly preposterous straw man argument that literally no-one was making. Liberal pin-up Jon Snow also glossed over the evidence produced by CAGE, before getting down to the most important business of the day: demanding that their spokespeople condemn terrorism, and seeking to belittle them when they question why this demand is only ever made of Muslims, or worse still, refuse to participate in the ridiculous spectacle.

It was already a nailed-on certainty that the government and the media would turn the “extremist” spotlight onto CAGE and its supporters in a witch hunt that would make McCarthy blush. But having anointed Peter Oborne the Supreme Ruler of Media Integrity for taking on the Telegraph, perhaps they should ask him what he thinks about CAGE’s treatment at the hands of the establishment. Or reflect on CAGE’s founder and director’s own experience at the hands of MI5, or his three-and-a-half years of illegal detention in Guantanamo Bay and Belmarsh prisons. Nope: they’re just “apologists for terrorism”, guilty until proven innocent.

Human rights and social justice groups should be supporting CAGE in its endeavours to uncover the extra-judicial prosecution of the “war on terror” in this country. They won’t because they’re scared of the “public perception”.

Conclusion

These elements allow one to easily predict the future : in a few months, maybe even as early as late March, Washington and Tehran would reach an overall agreement. The United States will renew contact with Syria, closely followed by the European states, including France. We will discover that the el-Assad is neither a dictator nor a torturer. Therefore, the war against Syria will come to an end, while the main jihadist forces would be eliminated by a true international coalition. When this is all over, the surviving jihadists would be sent by the CIA to the Russian Caucasus and Chinese Xinjiang.

The article itself says that the photo is faked. Though I'm not sure what the Friends Of Syria thought they were going to prove by publishing it, when the first thing they do is admit that it's photoshopped.

Mr. Magoo

Ya, it says

... but at first I assumed they must have meant that it was photoshopped in order to highlight and enlarge the tattoo.  It made no sense (and continues to make no sense) that they would suggest it was a total fake-up when the first paragraph of the article states

Quote:
This ASTONISHING PICTURE has just been tweeted by British MP George Galloway; it’s astonishing because it exposes US troops posing as ISIS TERRORISTS…So there are obviously factions within the US military and government who are engaged in terrorism

Anyway, in the spirit of whatever the hell that all was:

This ASTONISHING PICTURE has just been uploaded by Mr. Magoo; it’s astonishing because it shows a turtle flying through the air beside a plane… So there are obviously turtles that possess the power of flight, just like birds.
