Day of Action on March 14th 2015 against Bill C-51, all across Canada. For information, see https://openmedia.org/stopc51/

Pondering

How ironic that this is the first Justin Trudeau event I will be attending.

The first, but not last, Silent March Against C-51, will be held this 14th of March.

We will be visiting the office of Justin Trudeau. We are asking all to place a piece of tape on their mouths. This march will be symbolic of our future if we allow yet another law to infringe on our rights.

This time around, we will not stand down. We want the abolishment of this law, and we will not stop as long as this law is on the table. March with us; for your privacy, for your rights and freedoms, for your piece of mind.

'Freedom in Jeopardy': Nationwide Protests in Canada as Thousands Denounce New Anti-Terror Bill (and vid)

http://rt.com/news/240821-canada-protest-terrorism-bill/

"...One of the biggest concerns the new legislation raises is the additional powers it grants to police and Canada's spy agency - the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) - by increasing information sharing and allowing detention on mere suspicion.

'This bill disproportionately targets indigenous communities, environmental activists, dissidents, and Muslims, many of whom are already subject to questionable and overreaching powers by security officials and will make it easier and ostensibly lawful for government to continue infringing upon the right of peaceful people.' StopC51.ca  said."

Harper is the real terrorist with his gestapo like actions.  He needs to be stopped, as does Trudeau who supports this.   I guess the only way this bill will be stopped is if we elect an NDP majority which more than likely will not happen.

This will hurt the fed libs no doubt in BC where most of the ridings are usually NDP vs Con anyway with an exception or two.  Probably hurt him in Quebec too.

Like really why vote for an 'unknown' like Trudeau (who almost always backs Harper) than the devil we know? Other than marijuana and some social issues what is the difference between a federal con and lib these days? Not much really.

Trudeau had so much hope and promise when he was first elected Lib leader but then being Harpers best friend sure changed that.   Trudeau blew a sure thing like Dix did in BC...Sad really.

I would also wage come election the libs will attack the NDP more than Cons but Trudeau and the the libs in general over the last 7-8 years have been the cons best friends in the house. Plus many remember the 90's Lib governments (more so in the west than Ontario east) and the lies of the libs back then with their red book.

It is sad but true.  We just have an illusion of change at the ballot where so many votes do not count anyway. Hell the libs/cons used to be the same party at one time.

How can anyone vote for a party that wants to turn Canada into a police state (and that is no joke)?  I value my freedom and privacy some thing the Liberals and Conservatives do not.

The libs would of been far better to of kept Bob Rae as he is more experienced and knows what he is doing.

Canada needs a real change whether NDP, Greens or anyone else from the same two old parties that have been in power since 1867...

Geez i better be careful what i say as I may disappear soon....

Some of the MSM covered the protests, others kept to a stony silence.

Agreed.  While Rae at times disappointed me he was by far the best choice of the Lib contenders for advancing a more progressive cause.  And he was openly in favour of a post-election coalition.  If either Harper or Trudeau win then it will just be more of the same, I suspect.

I think he would have led the Liberals to another Harper majority.

Support Plummets For Harper's Anti-Terror Bill, New Poll Shows

Privacy is ‘essential to human dignity,’ says civil liberties group concerned about Bill C-51

Rallies in opposition to the Conservatives’ Bill C-51 were held across Canada on Mar. 14. The bill would allow massive information sharing about individuals among government agencies, criminalize speech seen to support terrorism even when there’s no terrorist intent, and give CSIS additional powers as a secret police force.

Josh Paterson, the executive director of the BC Civil Liberties Association, spoke to more than a thousand people at the rally in Vancouver about the dangers of C-51. Here are his remarks....

interesting, here with demos of over 70,000 in the city, thousands in dozens of towna throughout the country, not a cop to be seen!

On orders of CICIG, the international community has forced the government not to surveil as this would be an intimidation of the People´s right to free expression, while in democratic Canada any demo over 100 would have at least that many cops...with their cameras and videos and military hardware.....

it´s time for the activist community to challenge the right of the State to intimidate the people for expressing their right under international law of freedom of expression....
