I'm sure at the beginning of the campaign, even in her wildest dreams, did Rachel think it might end like this. Her Dad would have been so proud of her.

If it is true as reported that the PCs have shortchanged the citizens of BC $13 billion by undercollecting oil & gas royalties, these right-wingers should never, ever be allowed to get close to the levers of power ever again. If elected the NDP needs to arrange an independent forensic audit ASAP.

They should hire that tyee oil industry analyst to do their PR on this file.

This is bad news for the NDP. Scott Reid has really bad judgement.

Commentators on Power and Politics at the moment are very bullish on NDP chances. In particular they say:

1. Many switchers from Wild Rose to NDP

2. Major NDP breakthrough expected in rural northern seats

If they do win, he should be Speaker because he is the longest serving NDP member.

NorthReport

If the NDP wins Rachel may need his help to run the government.

I didn't realize Brain Topp was campaign manager and it has been an almost flawless campaign. If the NDP wins he will be redeemed in a lot of NDPer's eyes after what happened in BC in 2013.

I can't find any confirmation of this? Can you provide a source that Topp has been involved in the Alberta NDP campaign in this election?

NorthReport

Sure. He was interviewed on CTV Power Play this afternoon at NDP election nite headquarters and the caption under his name was

NDP War Room Director

I think the NDP might have kept it under wraps because of what happened in BC in 2013 and he doesn't live in Alberta

chimurenga chimurenga's picture

Was he explicitly described as managing the campaign, because "NDP War Room Director " doesn't indicate the Alberta NDP...

NorthReport

Well the way he was talking he was very much part and parcel of the campaign

POWER PLAY HIGHLIGHTS

chimurenga chimurenga's picture

Well that's a bummer. Certainly the campaign was excellent - albeit, a lot relied on Notley herself - but I wouldn't trust him with a federal campaign - his record is damning, apart from this one.

chimurenga chimurenga's picture

And Topp's obvious preference for a centrist NDP would be horribly destructive.

NorthReport

Well let's not jump the gun.

Don Martin introduced him as quarterbacking the war room. Maybe Lou Arab was the actual camapign manager.

Anyway just because Topp was brought in to run or help run the election does not mean he will be around Alberta after the election is over.

chimurenga chimurenga's picture

I was thinking more of the possibility of Topp running the federal campaign. The federal NDP needs to stay left.

NorthReport

I agree.

Didn't Mulcair makes some changes a few months ago  and bring back Brad Lavigne & Co?

Yes, that didn't please me...

Really?  That's good, then.  All I've been hearing is that due to the NDP's support being so concentrated in Edmonton, that they will be lucky to win a minority.

Breaking through in rurual areas is a very big deal. It also gives hope here in Manitoab, and could be trouble for the Libs! Man I'd love to see the Libs run third in Manitoba!

Oh my god, I think it's going to be a majority!  It's close.
