Does anyone think that there may be plans already in place for Mulcair's replacement?

If not, who could possibly challenge him for the leadership before the next election?

KenS

I think you are sniffing off in the wrong direction. Down that route is just layers and layers of speculation.

Geoff

If we oust Mulcair, all the energy of the party and party activists will be focused on the leadership race, and the discussion on the future of the party will be ignored.

What do we want the party to stand for? Once we've answered that question, we can then consider who would be best to lead the party in promoting a renewed party.

If all we do is switch leaders, we'll be the same old party with a fresh coat of paint.

Exactly correct. And that's not as of today. It has always been true. The cult of the LEADER must be surgically extracted from people's brains. That way lies failure.

Cult of the leader is how candians vote. However we should put someone into place that represents 'our' values and has some charisma. Mulcair could and should have won. That horrid campiagn crushed the NDP. It may be a blessing in disguise(not that I am religious). But there is hope we can get someone who doesn't praise israel for bombing gaza, doesn't want to go to war, does enact a pharmacare that the media will keep saying who cares to as they did in this last election. I don't even need nationalization projects but it would be nice to retain what we once had.

Maybe Unionist could start a draft Peter Stoffer movement

It's not just in "people's brains", it's also in the structure of our government.

The "leader" of the party that wins a plurality becomes the "leader" of our entire country.

Unionist should become the next leader of the NDP. He is perfect and dreamy.

Mr. Magoo

"Regular" dreamy, or "unicorn" dreamy?

Don't underestimate the dreamy factor.

Webgear

He is "unicorn dreamy".

Mr. Magoo

Focus groups show a marked preference (7%, +/- 2% margin of error) for younger unicorns.

The article is worth reading, and the comments are interesting, too.

From his "roast":

Quote:
"It's kind of like roasting Jesus, how can you roast somebody when nobody is going to say anything bad about him?" Gerry White, a retired naval and RCMP officer, said with a laugh.

You'll note that the jerks never invited me. I would have brought a crucifix. You know, out of respect.
