You beat me to that one. I was copying it to print it, as I find it too long to read comfortably on-screen.

The Easter Rising still colours Irish politics, and its strategy as well as Michael Collins' methods later on, were foundational for most rebellions since (long article):

2. from TeleSur, much more radical and sympathetic to the aims and aspirations of the revolutionaries...

5 Things you really need to know about Ireland's Easter Rebellion: that's more like it!

Proclamation wrote:
"We declare the right of the people of Ireland to the ownership of Ireland and to the unfettered control of Irish destinies, to be sovereign and indefeasible. The long usurpation of that right by a foreign people and government has not extinguished the right, nor can it ever be extinguished except by the destruction of the Irish people...

...we hereby proclaim the Irish Republic as a Sovereign Independent State, and we pledge our lives and the lives of our comrades in arms to the cause of its freedom, of its welfare, and of its exaltation among the nations…

The long usurpation of the right of Ireland to her freedom has not extinguished the right nor can it ever be extinguished... Perhaps it is time that First Nations people in Canada spoke in such terms of their nationhoods... For inspiration in that long struggle, the Irish struggle can be a great source.
