Doug Ford explains why they have more NDP support than Andrea Horwath or Olivia Chow. Rob is much more leftwing and progressive than Jack Layton.

Don't bash me, that is what Doug Ford said today on CP24. Ford Nation polling does suggest as much as 25% of their support comes from NDP supporters.

I think Doug Ford is exaggerating a little.

voice of the damned

I think Doug is probably conflating "populist" with "left-wing" here.

I think Rob Ford did have a genuine ability to connect with a large number of poor and working-class voters, and no amount of progressives screaming "But, but, he's from a rich family!!" or "But, but, what about all his racist statements?" is gonna wish that away.

That said, Ford was also the guy who told an American radio station that Obamacare was too left-wing for his tastes, and that "If you want health-care, you should pay for it". So, he didn't even stack up to the bare minimum, as far as being authetically left-wing in Canada goes.

I always said it would be very very dangerous for the Ont NDP if Doug Ford were party leader of the Ont PC Party

Ford pulls NDP support, at least 25%. Combined with their PC support, especially in the 905 I would think the NDP won't even achieve party status with Ford as Party Leader.

Thankfully he declined to go for the leadership.

Hopefully,this cretin drops dead next.

The Ontario PC's don't even seem that enthusiastic about the idea of having Doug Ford as a candidate, so I'm not sure he would be that big a threat to the NDP anyway.

Although she is flawed, Kathleen Wynne probably remains a bigger threat to the Ontario NDP than Ford.

After he lost to John Tory by only 7%, he could have won the leadership in a walk. And he would have been a bigger threat to the NDP than Wynne.

Rob was as left-wing as Doug's wife is Jewish.

bagkitty bagkitty's picture

I told Doug's mom she needed to pin a tag on each mitten, explaining which one was left and which one was right... obviously she didn't take my advice.

The Toronto Star challenges background of Doug Ford's wife who says she is Jewish

Very long back and forth between Doug and The Toronto Star on this issue.

Then it would have been a lucrative walk, if nothing else.

Why do you suppose he didn't walk that walk?

Lucrative? He donated his councillor salary to charity, he loves being in politics for the fame and attention. He is not in it for the money.

I was surpised he didn't run for the leadership, so I can only go by what he said. That he wanted out of, and was tired of being a pin cushion for the left-wing media.

Then "high five" to this "left-wing media" for evidently having bigger balls.

Shame he couldn't compete, ya?

As Toronto Sun Sue-Ann Levy writes

"I absolutely loathed the way the left-wing media treated him -- with a viciousness bordering on abuse that they would never dream of directing at shall we say, a more eloquent, left-wing mayor. I knew full well that the Toronto Star and the number of columnists who regularly obsessed about him aimed to get him out of office from the day he won."

Would that be found hiding somewhere with the Sasquatch , Santa Claus and egg laying rabbits? Like these 3 things,I've heard about it but I never seen evidence of its existance. This comment alone belongs in a  Conservative echo chamber not on babble.

Doug Ford says he represents the Ford Nation NDP supporters which account for almost 25% of their support.

You still didn't provide evidence of a 'left wing media'

Yes, TT, you've told us many times about the alleged large NDP voter support for the Fords. And if Doug Ford says it, surely it must be true. But why didn't you answer the point about there being no such thing as a "left wing media".

Ask Sue Ann Levy

http://www.torontosun.com/2016/03/22/rob-ford-was-antidote-to-city-hall-...

She also has a book at the printers right now where she says she will 'expose' the bullying Ford had to endure from the left-wing media.

Michael Moriarity

So, TT, you are hiding behind a lying right wing source again, pretending that you are nothing but an innocent bystander. Not very impressive.

Well, let's fine-tune the phrasing and say that, relatively speaking, there are some media outlets that are to the left of Rob Ford, and dislike him. The Toronto Star, NOW, and Eye Weekly, for example.

Michael Moriarity wrote:

Andrea Horwath has taken out NDP ads in the Toronto Sun and Mulcair has penned OP-EDs in that paper as well.

So how can you have any respect for Mulcair and Andrea Horwath for aligning themselves with what you call a 'lying right wing source?' As  both of them don't have an issue with The Toronto Sun.

Michael Moriarity wrote:

Not alleged. In the dying days of the TO Mayoral campaign Doug Ford was pulling in 36% of NDP Support AHEAD of Olivia Chow who was only getting 31% of NDP support.

Well, why *wouldn't* he be two steps to the left of Jack Layton?  After all, you know how the conservative trollosphere likes to emphasize how  Adolf Hitler led the National *Socialist* Party--by that barometer... ;-)

I've searched the internet for this quote, and I can't find it.

Wow..NOW and Eye Weekly. Maybe you could add (now defunkt) Montreal Mirror. Fact is,the mainstream media is not left wing. Besides the Toronto Star (loosely left) could you name a major media outlet which is left wing? I'd love to see what I'm missing.

Doug Ford:  "Rob Ford put his pants on both legs at a time.  Rob could make a three minute egg in two minutes.  Rob was once so mad at the left-wing press that he slammed a revolving door."

It was 40% of NDP support!
