Chaos and War on Russia's Borders: An Analysis (and vid)

http://thesaker.is/chaos-and-war-on-russias-border-must-see/

A conversation between one of the foremost Russian experts on Ukraine, Rostislav Ishchenko and one of the best known Russian military experts, Igor Korotchenko. I am posting this here because Canada has and still does proclaim Ukraine to be its number one foreign policy priority, has given it almost a billion dollars and sent its soldiers there to train Nazis to kill Russian-speaking resisting populations in the east.

Canada, here is some truth about the awful mess you helped make...

"Military exercises involving Ukrainian servicemen started near Starychi, Lviv region, Western Ukraine. About 200 instructors from Canada came to Ukraine last month, under the UNIFER program aimed to support and train the Ukrainian military.

'The presence and contributions of Ukrainian servicemen is crucial and necessary. Many of these fighters came here after fighting in eastern Ukraine. They are eager to learn techniques that will make them more efficient on the battlefield,' said the commander of the Canadian training unit."

As Canada trains these fighters to 'make them more efficient on the battlefield', what is it exactly they did/do in Eastern Ukraine?

Freeland Knew Her Grandfather Was Editor of NAZI Newspaper

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/freeland-knew-her-grandfath...

"...Ms Freeland has never acknowledged that her grandfather was a Nazi collaborator and suggested on Monday that the allegation was part of a Russian disinformation campaign."

See also the excellent and perceptive comments of readers.  As Trudeau's 'Super-Minister', she has demonstrated quite clearly that she is unsuitable and should go.

Unionist

I can't blame Freeland for having been spawned by a Nazi collaborator. I can understand why she felt the need to cover up, deny, or lie about him. I'm more concerned by her being a gung-ho Ukrainian nationalist supporter of the Kiev regime and NATO and "let's sanction Russia!!".

In short, it's not her grandfather that bothers me. It's her following in his footsteps. And she doesn't even have the excuse of, "the Nazi occupiers made me do it!!".

6079_Smith_W

What is the difference, Unionist? That disinformation campaign is built on the same 80-year-old events.

Well, that and the dogma that countries like Canada and Ukraine belong to their more powerful neighbours.

Canada's Russian Aggression  -  by Yves Engler

http://www.counterpunch.org/2017/03/09/canadas-russian-aggression/

For Washington and Ottawa the Ukraine is a proxy to weaken Russia, which blocked plans to topple the Assad regime in Syria. As part of this campaign, 1,000 Canadian military personnel, a naval vessel and fighter jets will soon be on Russia's border.

Where will this lead? A new cold war against a capitalist Russia? Or a much hotter war involving direct confrontation between Canadian and Russian troops?"

6079_Smith_W

So.... if she helped write the journal article that revealed all this in the first place, and on which all these articles are based, how is it "hidden" and how has she been denying it?

kropotkin1951

If she was a Trump appointee who lied in her autobiography the same people on this board who are defending her would be calling for her head because of truth and justice.

6079_Smith_W

What lie?

My point is those who are claiming she is hiding and denying are basing their claims on an article she helped write.

They did flee, and with good reason. As for not going further, how is one supposed to do that with a war going on? And they opted to stay alive rather than go on a suicide mission like Sophie Scholl. Nice armchair judgment.

Unionist

Many commentators haven't grasped the full significance of Freeland's coverup and glorification of her Nazi collaborator grandfather.

Here's what she said:

Christia Freeland wrote:
"My maternal grandparents fled western Ukraine after Hitler and Stalin signed their non-aggression pact in 1939. "

"Western Ukraine" - Galicia and Volhynia - was ruled by Austria-Hungary before WWI (they had seized it from Poland in 1772), and returned to newly-reborn Poland via the Treaty of Versailles.  Of course, by population, history, and culture, the area really was part of Ukraine, but Ukraine had never enjoyed a sovereign state of its own.

Then, via the German-Soviet treaty of 1939, the Nazis occupied most of Poland (Sept. 1), while the Soviets occupied "western Ukraine" (Galicia and Volhynia, plus part of Bukovina, belonging to historic Romania, but also Austro-Hungary before WWI).

Get the picture? Freeland's grandparents fled Soviet-occupied western Ukraine in 1939 and took refuge in Nazi-occupied Krakow, where grandpa spent the war churning out Nazi propaganda.

My parents and their extended familes and ancestors also lived in "western Ukraine" - for centuries. They too lived under Soviet occupation from Sept. 17, 1939 to June 22, 1941. They didn't "flee" toward the Nazis. The Nazis came and found them. Almost all their family members were murdered by the Nazis and their Ukrainian Banderist and other collaborators. How I wish they had had the means and opportunity to flee.

Freeland's praise of her grandfather and silence about his crimes speaks volumes about where she stands. More importantly, so does her fervour for the Kiev regime and for sanctions against Russia. Past and present converge.

6079_Smith_W

We are picking up this conversation pretty much where we left it a few months ago.

Your family may have had no reason to flee, but plenty did - those who managed to get away. Hundreds of thousands did not. Many more were sent east, imprisoned, or deported (including many Jewish people) to Nazi occupied territory. The Gestapo and NKVD cooperated and shared strategy for dealing with the Polish resistance right up until Barbarossa.

For many Ukrainians, most likely it was a case of fleeing the the devil they knew, and which had been slaughtering their people for a decade for an unknown evil. Sure it looks different with our 20/20 hindsight. Not surprising. Even back then Stalin attempted to blame the Katyn massacre on the Nazis, because of course they are the bigger evil.

Is it time to use the G-word?   Canada is assisting a genocide of the Russian-speaking inhabitants of South-east Ukraine.

Given that the much-hated Azov Battalion is almost entirely Russian-speaking, I think that trope falls apart for anyone willing to look at the facts.

From the Prince Arthur Herald: "Chrystia Freeland and the complexities of history"

Quote:

It’s important to remember that the problem isn’t that her grandfather was a Nazi collaborator– she can’t, obviously, be blamed for this– but that she defended him, while knowing the truth.

“My maternal grandparents fled western Ukraine after Hitler and Stalin signed their non-aggression pact in 1939,” she has stated. But Chomiak did not flee in 1939. He moved to Cracow, the capital of the Nazi Generalgouvernement, to become editor of a virulently anti-Semitic pro-Nazi paper, and remained a collaborator until the end of the war.

And today’s Kyiv government, which she lauds, is, in my mind, in some ways a continuation of that ideology.

Exactly.

NDPP

It is important to remember a couple of things from John Helmer's original piece but which have gone missing in subsequent Canadian commentary. Chomiak's time resident in a Bavarian spa town was paid for by US Army Intelligence. As well, there was not only the incitement and murder of Jews by Ukrainian ultranationalists,  but lots of Poles too. This most certainly impacts upon the Foreign Minister's performance in that role.

Canadian Foreign Minister Scapegoats Russian Hackers For Exposing Nazi Grandfather

http://www.telesurtv.net/english/news/Canadas-Foreign-Minister-Grandfath...

"While Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland dismissed the news as Russian propaganda, it was actually Ukrainian Canadians who unearthed the information..."

6079_Smith_W

In fact, it was Freeland's uncle who unearthed the information, and she who edited the article. But let's not mention that, because she is supposed to be suppressing and denying all this, and they are supposed to be Ukrainians not connected to the nationalist clique and state power, according to that tweet (which we are supposed to take as evidence, I guess, instead of someone who either doesn't know what he is talking about, or is lying).

In case you are wondering what the propaganda was she is refering to, look at the fact that information was left out.

Though the even funnier thing is that it wasn't left out. They linked to it. I guess they expect that people are just blind enough or don't read well enough that they won't notice. And this isn't a question of something that is up for dispute, or unknown, like how much the Americans were involved in Kiev. Freeland and her uncle were the ones who dug up this information and published it, and this article claims that it must have been someone else who is not part of the "nationalist clique", even though the author knew who really wrote it.

"Poland will seek the arrest and extradition of a Minnesota man exposed by The Associated Press as a former commander in an SS-led unit that burned Polish villages and killed civilians in World War II, prosecutors said Monday.

Prosecutor Robert Janicki said evidence gathered over years of investigation into U.S. citizen Michael K. confirmed "100 percent" that he was a commander of a unit in the SS-led Ukrainian Self Defense Legion.

He did not release the last name, in line with Poland's privacy laws, but the AP has identified the man as 98-year-old Michael Karkoc, from Minneapolis.

"All the pieces of evidence interwoven together allow us to say the person who lives in the U.S. is Michael K., who commanded the Ukrainian Self Defense Legion which carried out the pacification of Polish villages in the Lublin region," Janicki said.

The decision in Poland comes four years after the AP published a story establishing that Michael Karkoc commanded the unit, based on wartime documents, testimony from other members of the unit and Karkoc's own Ukrainian-language memoir.

Karkoc's family has repeatedly denied he was involved in any war crimes and his son questioned the validity of the evidence against him after Poland's announcement, calling the accusations "scandalous and baseless slanders."

Wow. That Helmer article is hilarious. I suppose it would be beneath Mr. alleged ex-spy to simply write a letter to the editor or contact the ombudsman like the rest of us. But then, he'd have to have grounds for that.

And of course, he gets way more mileage with his tale of making the rounds doorknocking and of course being turned down because no one in their right mind would give him a soapbox for no reason at all.

And Jewish Canadians who don't want to jump on the bandwagon are worse than the rest of us because it should be black and white for them? Well that's nice.

Will Chrystia Freeland Finally Ruin Canadian-Russian Relations?    -   by  Michael Jabara Carley

https://t.co/Bm1QmuY51f

"...Should Freeland be held responsible for the sins of her grandfather? Obviously not. What is disturbing about Freeland is her intense hatred of Russia and the Russian government, and her confusion about her own national identity. 'I am,' she has written, 'one of Ukraine's democrats.'

If this is so, what is she doing as a minister in the Canadian government? Is she first and foremost a Canadian or is she a Ukrainian ultra-nationalist whose primary objective is to use her ministerial post to defend the putsch government in Kiev and to exacerbate Canadian relations with Russia?

That's the problem with Freeland, who now constitutes a smoking grenade ready to go off at any moment under Canadian-Russian relations.

'Ravings', one Montreal journalist called Freeland's accusations against Russia and Putin. Of course, no one would care about Freeland's obsessive Russophobia except that she is minister of external affairs. She can encourage the metastasis of Russophobia into Canada, as she indeed has started to do.

The psychosis is spreading...The question is, will the majority of Candians fall for Freeland's dangerous Russophobia?"
