Wow is thsat a ridiculous sentence. You're worried about Obama? Jesus Christ, look at who he's putting in his cabinet. Hardcore neocons and ultra far-right lunatics. Is there a 'danger' he'll surround himself with people like Obama. Stupid beyond words.

swallow swallow's picture

What an odd question. Since he is already surrounding himself with neocons, there is obviously a danger that he will do so.

The endless supplicant pilgrimages to Trump's New Jersey stage to pitch for cabinet jobs is certainly reminiscent of The Apprentice.

You have a charming simplicity of belief in the NDP, but to be specific, what was there in the recent federal election campaign in Canada that leads you to believe the NDP would threaten the corporate sector?

Sanders may have been a threat. The NDP, not so much.

Taking differences of each country into account, their policies were quite similar (at least, from what I gathered by going through both Sanders' website and by going through the NDP platform.)  My comments are inspired by Adam Curtis' documentary HyperNormalisation (available on archive.org or youtube) and/or any of his documentaries, actually (they all have relatively the same theme).  Recommended.

Can you spell race war?

Arms race yes.  The US starts bush fire wars all over the place then sells both sides arms to kill each other with. At some point they come in with their own weapons and start killing whoever.

I'm certain this would have carried on under Clinton as business as usual. Will trump do the same? I think there is at least a bigger chance of him inturupting that vicious circle, a much larger chance than Clinton anyways. The US at least has a chance now to break away from their insane war profiteering.

The unknown is part of what makes this drama more exciting than a Clinton win (I do feel Clinton was the better choice, however).  With Clinton, it was more of the same.  With Trump, it's likely more of the same too.  But there's still the unknown of his bullish personality at play.  Will he and Putin get together and start bombing places?  Will there be increased racial tension?  Will he rip up NAFTA and we go back to FTA?  Or, will international stuff remain unchanged, but Keystone XL and coal mining resume, making some people happy with increased employment?  The last seems most likely.

Mattis has been quoted as being critical of the West Bank settlements and the cost of blind support of Israel to U.S. interests in the region. So I don't think you have to worry about him getting the job.

Respectfully disagree. Trump would no more be responsible for a race war than Hitler was responsible for WW2. More than one person is to blame and racisim goes back much farther than November 9th 2016.  If you're looking to place blame then include politicans, the media and everyone who chooses to make a racist comment.

Hitler wasn't responsible for WWII? What? Huh?

quizzical

and this tread took and even weirder turn.

Paladin1

Lots of contributing factors.

The Treaty of Versailles was a huge one (practically paved the road to uniting most of Germany under the Nazi party). Russians secretly training and arming pre ww2 Germany. Japanese militarism & Italian fascism and so on.

A critically important group that you missed is the group that turns a blind eye to racism. In fact, considering that those who make racist comments are a subset of those who turn a blind eye to racism, I would argue that you could simplify it to:

The only people to blame for a potential race war are those who turn a blind eye to racism, be it from intent or ignorance.

Larry King - Trump Casts Long Shadow Over Global Trade Agreements

Then, an insider's look at Alt-right leader Steve Bannon from Breitbart News..."

Larry King is just as stupid and shallow at RT as he was at CNN. On the other hand, here is a half hour interview with Chomsky about what to expect from the Trump administration on Al Jazeera.

from Voltairenet.org...Michael T. Flynn and Islam...

The clash between Michael Flynn on one hand and Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama on the other occurred in August 2012, during the circulation of a secret note concerning the jihadists in the Levant. In the part of the docupment which had been declassified, he observed that the jihadists were at war with the Syrian Arab Republic, and were supported by the tribal populations who lived in an area straddling Syria and Iraq. This situation could lead to the creation of an emirate in North-East Syria, which would correspond to the strategic interests of their sponsors - Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey. He explained that he had written this document - just after the France re-launched the war against Syria – in an attempt to oppose the support by the Obama administration for the creation of Daesh.

A Pentagon Rising  - by William Hartnung

http://readersupportednews.org/opinion2/277-75/40516-focus-a-pentagon-ri...

"Veteran defense analyst David Isenberg, has convincingly argued that the 'military-industrial-congressional-complex,' not the white working class will be the real winner of the 2016, presidential election.

Drawing heavily on a military spending blueprint created by Washington's right-wing Heritage Foundation, Trump called for tens of thousands of additional troops, a Navy of 350 ships (the current goal is 308), a significantly larger Air Force, an anti-missile, space-based Star Wars-style program of Reaganesque proportions, and an acceleration of the Pentagon's $1-trillion 'modernization' program for the nuclear arsenal (now considered a three-decades-long project)."

Supposedly Sarah Palin is being considered to head up the VA.  While she's actually made some sensible comments re the treatment of veterans I have difficulty wrapping my head around giving her any position of any sort.  Her only qualification is that she was one of the first Republicans to come out and openly support Trump.

By Israeli standards, Donald Trump's designated Ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, is an extreme right-winger. He might find a place in the settler movement or with Naftali Bennett's Habayit Hayehudi Party, but only on its right-wing fringes. He makes Benjamin Netanyahu seem like a left-wing defeatist. From where Friedman stands, most Israelis, never mind most American Jews, are more or less traitors.
