Congress Grovels Before the CIA As It Escalates 'Russian Hacking' Hysteria

http://wsws.org/en/articles/2017/01/06/pers-j06.html

"Given the incessant campaign to transform the alleged hacking into a pretext for war with nuclear-armed Russia, let us conduct a reality-check. What was atually uncovered by the hacking into the DNC and the Clinton campaign? The material released by WikiLeaks exposed two major facets of the 2016 Presidential Campaign..."

"After Hillary Clinton was defeated in the US presidential election the relevant powers launched a campaign to delegitimize the President-elect Donald Trump. But there is a problem. There is no real evidence that a 'hack' ever happened. There is no evidence Russia is involved.

None at all."

No need to the US intelligence has declared that it can tell what Russia is doing by reading its propaganda. Who needs hard facts Putin and his ministers publicly said they liked Trump better than Clinton so that has been taken as proof that the hacking was directed from the top.

But of course some people actually believe that Putin and the Russian States goal is to undermine the US led democratic order. All true believers know that Russian democracy is not the same as our democracy or the US democracy. We have REAL democracy while everyone who opposes the US led order is undemocratic and evil.

All hail the Kremlin they have obviously achieved the height of propaganda since the US intelligence agencies claim that RT and Sputnik actually played a role in Trump's election.  Not the CNN and Fox etc etc who covered him relentlessly during the primaries while totally ignoring the Sanders campaign.  I am astounded at the influence of RT and Sputnik and am impressed that their presence in the American TV market made the difference in Trump's election.

I wonder why this station is so ineffective in comparison?

So the Russian don’t like Hillary and they say so.  What’s the big deal?  Hillary was the most incompetent and russophobic Secretary of State in US history and had she been elected the risks of thermonuclear war would have been immense.  Does it really surprise anybody that most Russians (including yours truly) absolutely hate, despise and fear her?  What is Trump suppose to do now: call Putin and tell him “Vladimir, please tell RT not to criticize US public figures?!”.  And what was Trump supposed to answer if Putin replied to him “Donald, the USA has been deeply interfering inside Russia, you ran our country in the 1990s, you rigged out elections, your snipers shot our people from the roof of your embassy in 1993 and your media has been demonizing me personally for years now – and you want me to tone down RT?!”.

I really liked this analyse.  I was gobsmacked when I read the "intelligence" report and realized they were complaining that RT was covering the election and being biased against Clinton. Was any media in the US unbiased during the election?

Assange Blasts Soros and USAID Over Russian Propaganda Campaign (and vid)

"Assange detailed the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project's role in the Putin framing and how the Maryland-based organization is funded by George Soros and USAID and 'focuses exclusively on negative stories about Russia and former Soviet states.'

Assange drew comparisons between those narratives and WikiLeaks in relation to trust. 'One is funded by a government attacking another government,' while WikiLeaks is 'funded by readers' and has a track record of publishing accurate information.

When asked about the Snowden documents and the way in which they were released by journalists, Assange said 'more than 97% of the Snowden docs have been censored, as a result."

Murray: Stunning Admission From Obama on WikiLeaks

"Most crucially of all Obama refers to 'The DNC emails that were leaked.' Note 'leaked' and not 'hacked'. Yet the media has persisted with this nonsense 'Russian hacking' story.

The farrago of nonsense, which is the 'Russian hacking' story, like the 'Golden Showers' concoction, was only ever designed to appeal to Russia-haters.  It was patently obvious to anyone else with a brain that it was nought but simple shit from start to finish.

An offhand comment at a press conference, is not evidence, nevermind conclusive evidence. There can be both a hack and a leak. The information can be hacked, and then leaked to a third party.

Michael Moriarity

It has been well documented that John Podesta's gmail account, from which most of the damaging emails were taken, was hacked by a phishing attack. There is no doubt about that. The only question is who is responsible for it. Here is a detailed article on how it was done, and what the evidence is that the hackers were the group known as "Fancy Bear". It isn't conclusive, but it is quite persuasive, at least to me.

Actually, it was just a claim that his account had been hacked, and that he should change his password right away, by clicking on a (false) link to a gmail admin page. But I like your suggestions better.Laughing

WikiLeaks Reveals Vast CIA Spying Cyberwar Operation

http://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2017/03/08/pers-m08.html

"...The 8,761 documents contained in what WikiLeaks has described as 'the largest intelligence publication in history' have begun to lay bare a vast system of surveillance, hacking and cyberwarfare directed against the people of the United States and the entire planet..."

6079_Smith_W

The material doesn't show that the CIA is breaking the law and operating in the United States. It only shows that (as the article itself says) these are tools which are common to all spy agencies.

My DVD manual also mentions settings for Japan and other countries. That doesn't prove I live there.

(though not to slag wsws too much. Paul Hunter forgot he was an imperialist mouthpiece on CBC The National last night and also speculated that this could mean someone could pretend the Russians did something when they didn't)

Clearly the 2+2 some are hoping for is that this proves Hillary and Obama did it all to undermine Trump, and it wasn't Russia. In fact, it says nothing of the sort. But if we want to get into speculation it might explain why Assange is releasing this just as the truth is coming out that almost all of Trump's advisors, and Trump himself, met with the Russian ambassador and lied about it.

6079_Smith_W

Or maybe he's just getting twitchy about this:

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/feb/09/ecuador-julian-assange-emb...

and realizes he'd better do something to salvage his reputation if he doesn't want to go out as some slimy, self-serving little shill.

Mobo2000

This is an amazing release from Wikileaks.   I own a Samsung TV, but never hooked it up to the internet.

Smith:   Even if you were right that the CIA was acting legally, the rest of the world has a different view of the legality of being spied on by American intelligence agencies when not American.   To me it is somewhat shocking you'd even argue it.   A few years ago it was revealed the CIA was illegally spying on all Americans.   Perhaps they've turned that off.   Oh wait, I forgot, Obama made it legal.

Is anything in this release of concern to you?   Do you think the CIA is right to be pursing these activities?   Do they make us or Americans safer?

From Russia with Panic

https://thebaffler.com/salvos/from-russia-with-panic-levine

"...The moral of the tale is that cyberwarfare is a fraught and high stakes theater of conflict, in which the uncertain nature of cyber-attack attribution can be exploited to support any politicized version of events that one chooses.

John Podesta's Gmail account was hacked with a rudimentary spear-phishing attack that tricked him into entering his password with a fake Google login page. His emails ended up on WikiLeaks too. All sorts of people linked this to Russian military intelligence with no concrete evidence to speak of..."

Given revelations that Op Umbrage generates false fingerprints, any credible evidence of Russian hacking DNC/Podesta emails simply ceases to exist.

6079_Smith_W

Well the fact that spy agencies have those tools at hand is alarming (though not surprising). Considering this isn't actually evidence of anything (certainly not spying on Americans, or faking the DNC hack) I'm not sure what I am supposed to make of it beyond that.

But since we are already into the wild speculation department, how about explaining why the deep state would orchestrate an alleged false flag like this and get Trump elected in the first place, just so they could push him out. Does that make sense to you?

Why not just realease the goods on his little fountain party in Moscow instead (or for that matter, the goods on all those meetings which we now learn happened) and put fascist Hillary in the white house?

Mobo2000

Smith:   I don't understand your false flag comments.    I don't think anyone is arguing that Hillary/the DNC faked a russian attack on DNC servers to blame on Trump.   The point is to say we don't know who did it, and the previous claims by the CIA and "intelligence experts" that they could tell it came from Russia based on digital signatures, etc, are not grounded in fact.   It underlines that there is still no evidence Russian hacked the DNC, although it is repeated as a near certainty in the media that Russia was behind it.

As to your last question, I think it's simply because they don't have the goods.   I think if they had solid evidence that would have torpedo'd his campaign, they would have released it.    They certainly tried.

Would you answer my questions above?   They were:

Do you think the CIA is right to be pursing these activities?   Do they make us or Americans safer?
