He also believed that it could have been blowback from Operation Mongoose. But the mob angle is the most likely.
The reference that RFK was the leading contender for the nomination when he was killed is incorrect. Humphrey had the lead in delegates, and it would have been a tough battle for RFK to wrest the nomination from him.
